say i were to run something like a pair of falken rt615's on the front and another pair of bridgestone re001's on the rear
just to throw it into the mix, what about different tyre widths too i.e. 205 front 195 rear

what sort of dangers could i be exposed to?

Possibly oversteer. I suspect that the RT615s will be slightly stickier than the RE001s. Just don't drive like a lunatic on the street and you will be fine :), I have driven around with A048s on the front and shagged street tyres on the back of my car before, it is fine as long as you don't try anything foolish. The setup could even work on track with a bit of tuning of tyre pressures.

If you have a soft rear spring then the RE001's will probably go ok. Seems like a band-aid fix to get "more grip" at the front.

Don't do it on the track. On the street you can do anything so long as you're conscious and you play safely. On the track, the rear half of the car actually does something more than look pretty!

Running different brand/model tyres front & rear is a no no for safety reasons. It will casue imbalanced handling & unpredictable behavior, all due to different tyre constructions & performance charateristics. These problems are even more noticeable when you have a later model car with functions like traction & stability controls.

Its not just bad for the race track, you should have the same tyre even for normal road driving. In situations like sudden lane change, emergency heavy braking or in wet conditions, where your tyres could experience the same kind forces applied on a race track. That when you could be in some real trouble. So keep them the same and stay safe.

sweet as, i had the same answers in my head but just wanted some conformation with more experienced people

question came to me because of this thread (http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?t=106031), especially post #16 (http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showpost.php?p=2098270&postcount=16) and the fact that JohnL agreed (http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showpost.php?p=2099149&postcount=18)(nothing personal john, i just take your opinions very seriously)

The RT615 is grippy at the right temperature.

I wouldnt run the car like this in the wet.

Perhaps use the same tyre, but go wider at the front. That way you have same characteristics , but a wider contact patch act the front.. just throwing a thought out there.
