so every now and then when i go to start my car, i get to the reds and turn to start and get nothing then the key light on the cluster starts flashing
now usually i just take out the key and reinsert it and it seems fine but i figured it's probably a good idea to get down to the bottom of it
anyone have any idea what it might be? i figure it's a relay somewhere, just not sure where or which one, any thoughts would be appreciated

It the imobiliser light. (Code is in the key)
If it's failing, which is not really that uncommon,
Time for new Key/s + imobiliser.
You'll need to budget around $450 for 2 blank keys & a new imobiliser from Honda.
You then need to get the keys cut to suit the car & the Imobilizer activated at the dealership.

dayummm
I have the same problem with mine, but its around maybe a few times a month
I know it's the key and it's age and obvious wear on it blocking a clean signal
if the immob was dead it wouldnt work at all imo
I only have my Honda key on my key ring
I was just going to get new keys but they wanted around $195 for the two made up for the car

something could also be blocking the singal from the key to the receiver like other metal objects on your key ring.

Hahah same here! I've got my chip glued in and heatshrink around the top
Mr. Minit reckons they can do them for $60!

if you dont have the transponder in the right spot it could cause read issues,
you need to keep the transponder away from the metal part of the key

oh that explains it, the transponder may be touching the metal part of my key
will cut it out and redo it, see how i go
i find if i don't hold my fingers over the middle bit where the transponder is and turn the key by the end where the keyring hole is it starts okay

yeah beacuase the metal part of the key and your hand sheild the transponder's signal to the receiver. If you remember when you pulled the key apart the transponder was in a plastic protector on the middle if the key. try and put it back there.
