i think my neighbour has a original ek9, how many are those in Melb?
took a peek and noticed some standard ek9 stuff lol.
- the standard lip, skirts, back lip, wing, headlamps
- 5 lug with simple ek9 rims
- hatch door without wiper, back half part of car is tinted
- recaros
- ek9 interior

what else can i check out other than popping its hood ?

wasnt sneaking around lol, helped him push his eg (dead battery) into his garage and saw the ek9 (the main reason me helping him lolol).
the ek is in the garage, i'll see if i can talk to him, he just moved into this area i think.
has a cw ek9 (ASSUMED), and eg, and a Jazz with numberplates NARUTO lol.

there are a few EK9's in melb... don't be suprised cos most of them came from VIC anyway. over the years i've counted up to 10... but oddly i don't see them anymore... but then again i don't roam around the city as much as my uni/bumming/clubbing days ;)

lips front and back
grill
5 lug
recaros
red carpet/mats
shaved boot with no wiper
rear window is really dark tint and middle brake light

I've only ever seen one geniune EK9 in QLD once, wasnt much different to the std EK4, apart from the mentioned JDM goods, stickers, floors, etc.

Doesn't take alot of effort to build a replica one that looks absolutely spot on, the chassis is the only real diff, alot more stiffer than the std EK4

is it useful to use the going rate of the ep3, which r about $22-30k. so one would assume that an ek9 is about the high teens to low 20s mark.

ep3s have a market rate, they're a common import now... ek9's don't cos you can't get them. if the import laws change then they start flooding in, yeh they'll definitely be high teens...

but would i sell my ek9 just above price of ek4 and under ep3? don't think so...

What kind of effort are you talking about, EK1.6LCIV? I bought a pair off ebay ages ago with switch and relay, need to get em sprayed and was just gonna get auto elec. to install, is there more I need to know?

i'm now the owner of that civic eg, and i talked to the guy and he says he imported his ek9 from overseas and threw a ITR engine in it.

he told me he was selling it, and heres the ad:

^^ i doubt it's as simple as that.

the person from NZ would most likely need to be moving to Australia before customs/gov allows them to import a car. they simply can't own the car for 12 months, then ship it here... they gotta come with it too.

i hope you're not talking about me... cos it's not me, lol. confusing...

as for all the EK9s floating around Melbourne, some are private imports, some were brought in as damaged vehicles pre 2001/2002 before laws were changed to cover a loophole. the damaged ones were repaired and re-birthed - yes, it was legit only cos of a loophole in the laws... but when the laws changed, these rebirthed cars were reinspected to check they were roadworthy and met australian standards. this applied to all imports that fell thru the loophole including nissans, mitsubishis, etc.

however i have to say that there are a few i have seen personally that were very dodgy, or may have been through the same process but the cars were in poor condition or not "rebuilt" to standard.

if u ever come across an ek9 that is not a personal import - without the yellow plate on the firewall, i'd have a good inspection and try to track down its history.
