GDay,
Does any one have problems with the factory in dash cd player skipping? Is this a known cl9 Euro problem?
Mine has been playing up mainly on burned cds and occasionally on original recorded cds.
Thanks.

Hey mate,
I had the same problem. Just had some dust on the player laser. Buy a laser cleaner and run it in the Cd player. It will fix it up no problem, and they only cost around 15 bucks. Also I've never had a problem running multiple burnt Cd's in the player at one time. Cheers.

if it skips a lot, time to claim warranty if you still have warranty on your car

thanks guys,
I do have warranty left, though I will give the cleaner a go....is it just a disc or something with brushes? Is it compatible with a cd changer?

Hey mate,
Yeah it is a disc and it has brushes on it. You can pick them up from Big W and Kmart. It will work fine with the CD Changer. Cheers.

Are your CDs dirty?
I have the same problem aswell. Brand new cd i burn even on the lowest speed skip sometimes.
The song plays properly for 5 mins or so then a 1 sec it goes crazy then goes fine again.
I think i remember that original cds never screwed up, but maybe i'm going crazy i dunno.

Reviving an old post here... But I'm getting same problem with CD changer on my CL9. My burnt CDs skips every so often, really annoying. But my original Guns n Roses CD works fine :)
Just confirming..do those lens cleaner CDs work on the CD changer? Wanna find out before I go and buy one

If your burnt CDs skip but the originals are fine, then DON'T use the lens cleaner CD. The problem is probably because of the burning process. Burn them at only 2x or 4x. I burn at 4x and it even works perfect on CD-RW (Verbatim). When I burnt at 12x or 16x on CD-R media, it still skips.

yeah mine skips too and I burn it at like 52x. looks like our headunits cant take fast burnt cds >.< been wondering why I've been getting those 0.5 second skips!

Aha! I knew something was a bit off. I've been burning on medium/slow speeds already..but been doing that on my laptop. I found this old post

Looks like burning from laptops might be reason for weak CDR/CDRWs. I'll try burning from desktop at work tmrw to test

It depends on the drive that you use. I used Pioneer DVD-RWs with the NEC chipset and they burnt well and played without skipping when I kept the burn speed low. Now I'm using a Sony drive but that is still an NEC chipset like the old Pioneers.

Thanks, I've got it sorted now! I burned some TDK CD-RWs on my Dell Optiplex at work (no idea drive they use)..plays smooth on the car. Burned with windows media player on slow speed
Wasted a few CDRs already having burned them on my laptop..but I'm happy now :) I was *this* close to getting an Xcarlink becase of this skipping issue.

LOl, on a side note;
Does the CD player/ stacker sound really mechanical when it changes CD's? like for example going from CD 1 to CD 2, does it kind of whine/click as it changes over... ive only realised it in the past few weeks and cant remember if it was always like that LOl.

Mine skips too with certain brands of CDs... With TDK it's REALLY bad, to the point where sometimes I can't even listen to the CD at all and have to just wait until next time I drive the car.
Verbatim have been perfect so far, not a single issue. It sucks that I haven't been able to find any cheapish spindles of them though, I've only found 5 packs in jewel cases :(

Any thoughts on whether I CD cleaner disc will fix my problem of the ERROR mesage showing when I try to play a CD - both original and burnt?
Hi
jus borrowing this thread, I have a 06 CL7 not the Euro R. Problem is my head unit is broken and I am looking for one to replace it.
Was wondering if anyone has one to part. 6 disc changer with dual climate control.
Problem is I am in Singapore and wondering if anyone can ship it over?
Thanks

Yes, it sounds very mechanical with clacks, whirring and all that.

It might work. Give it a go since original CDs are not playing for you.
