hey guys a brother has a boosted b20/16 tuned with an EMS computer and well it has a rev limiter set a 7500 turbo pick up 3500 vtec at 4500,

couple of nights ago went for a drive and strangly the limiter did not kick in and the boost lagged and had to get it spooling by clutching it so i find it strange it doing this.

could it be the tune is phasing out, which i dont think that tunes can just phase out, also his rpm is not functioning on his instrument cluster could this also have anything to do with it (keep in mind it never worked)

so if anyone could shed some light on this it would be great

ECU's don't "phase out"
Something that never worked before is unlikley to cause an issue now.
How do you know the rev limiter isn't working when you also said the tacho isn't working either.
Or which limiter are you talking about?

5 cent diagnosis - sounds like a boost leak.

Are you sure its a boost leak TODA?
If he can get it spooling properly by "clutching" it (whatever that is) then there wouldnt be any leaks.............

ECU's are weird as i have found and if one thing is gone it can affect almost anything......... I reckon get the tacho fixed and see if that gets it going........

Could also be that your wastegate is playing up...........

Do you know what setup your bros got??
Also how old is the setup? The turbo might have packed in.........

if you have a boost leak the car will still spool no worries just the air wont make it to the inlet manifold, as TODA said i would look all the the hoses for a boost leak first once you know there is no leak then look as spark plugs injectors etc but if the car is running fone but wont make boost properly and wont make power anymore then you could have poped a cooler pipe off or blown a hose etc

hey guys the ems he is running has a controller to check your settings rpm ,psi fuelpressure etc, and it was set to limit at 7000 to play safe and we noticed at one stage it went just past 8 hoses were all check and no pipes were found to be the slightest out, its a few years old the set up subaru turbocharger from a 00 wrx not sure the specific

what i ment by clutching it we had to kick the clutch a couple of times before it picked up properly

The best thing to do would be to go to a tuner and let them have a look at it IMO.............

It sounds like there might be a problem with the clutch......... Maybe the hydraulic cylinder needs replacing??
