Hey.. does anyone know what is the difference between the B16As from the EG6/9 civics and the B16As from the EK4s ?? I only know that the EGs use OBD1 and EK's use OBD2. What is the actual difference in power output and torque ?? Also, in one of the post earlier on, someone actually stated that the EG9s have 127kw compared to 118kw in the EG6s.. Is this true ??

NOt 100% sure on this, but i think jap spec B16as are 126kw, while the Aussie delivered ones are 118kw. As EGs with B16as never came out in aus spec, they are jap spec and so are 126kw. The aussie Ek civics have the aussie spec B16as and so are 118kw.

B16A from the EG series is dubbed the B16A or B16A1. They have OBD1 ecus. The EK series carry the B16A2 engine with OBDII. Jap spec B16As carry 170HP compared to ausdm of 160hp. The difference in power is due to low octane aussie fuel....main difference is ecu settings. I think the 127kw engine you are referring to is the B18C VTi-R engine!

Ok - lets sort this out:

By age:

B16As from the JDM XSi and EF8/9 SiRs c1989-1991 are 160ps NOT bhp! That equates to approx 158bhp.

The B16A from the European EE8/9 Civic and CRX VT c1989-1991 put out 150bhp.

The JDM B16A from the EG6 Civic and CRX ran 170ps NOT bhp and are OBD1.

Aussie and Euro spec of the above ran 160bhp.

The JDM B16A powered EK Civic SiR ran 170ps and was OBD2

Aussie/Euro/US VTiR/Si varients of the above run 160bhp.

Note the difference in power output based on bhp and ps. They are not equal amounts.

Cheers

Oh - and only ignorant Yanks call the first gen B16A a "1". Neither the JDM or Euro spec B16A had this, it's just a common reference to designate that it is "OBD0"

Mine's the first generation of B16A and puts out 160ps. It's been dyno'd just the once and was 79.8kw @FW with a stuffed catalytic convertor and slightly retarded ignition (the previous owner was running it on 96 octane by the looks of it and turned it back a bit). Since then the cat has been replaced and timing wound up for a noticable increase in power :)

Heheh - it only buzzes at the front on song - the stock exhaust is soooo quiet - just ask Chuck, he was dyno'd straight after me with his then B16A powered Civic ;)
