Hmm, to me it somewhat shows some resemblance to the prius (at first glance).

Still could live with the front, but the rear....hmmmmm

Looked at Mugen, still can't get used to the rear.

Putting aside the issue of the looks of the vehicle, it seems that the Insight electric motor is an assist to the petrol engine (which saves on overall cost of manufacture). The Toyota Prius electric motor can run without the petrol engine.

From Wheels Magazine (March 2009)...
Specs to compare the Toyota Prius and Honda Insight (citing Prius then Insight)
Petrol Engine = 73kW / 65kW
Electric Motor = 60kW / 10kW
Fuel Consumption = 4.0L / 4.4L per 100km
0-100km/h (claimed) = 9.8sec / 12.5 sec
Price (est) = $40,000 / $30,000

In the same issue, you can compare the following (hybrids versus deisel engine vehicles)
Toyota Prius = 4.0L/100km at $40,000
Honda Insight = 4.4L/100km at $30,000
Gold Comfortline (manual) 1.9TDi = 5.5L/100km at $29,990 (77kW and 157NM)
Hyundai i30 SX (manual) 1.6CRDI = 4.7L/100km at $21,890 (85kW and 255NM)

Just food for thought ...

why do all the auto manufacturer's make the back of the hybrids look like ass

I swear the fuel companies suggest (pay big bucks *cough*) this flaw to deter ppl, cant they have it in a FN2R body or even a FD body, without the need for silly wheels (old civic hydrid, this model actually has normal wheels for once)

and the interior, why not have recaros and instead of this beige old pensioner spec interior...

why cant we have a sporty looking car that is eco as well, lol

but why do they all have to be the prius shape... sigh...

i wonder what the original insight L/100 was. Eventhough this one seems more refined and practical.

But on a side note.. the most economic honda city from the 80's was getting around 4.6L/100

The eco shape is like that unfortunately, the eco shape is like the shape of a wing, a sharp dip in the back like a hatchback creates turbulence, therefore by having a gradual gradient in the back, it reduces the amount of turbulence, thus reducing drag, therefore improving fuel efficiency.
