stopped at a set of lights this morning, about 5 cars back. lights turn green, traffic is very slow to take off, i havent even moved yet... but the truck driver behind me decided he wanted to go anyway! and drove straight into me!!! so F****** angry!!! its hard to tell from the pics but the rear quarter panels and bent in too, so his insurance company will be paying a bit!!!

Be sure to check if your exhaust is ok, may wanna claim it aswell. I heard that with some trucks since they are so high up there is a blind spot in front of em so they don't see you and just plough right through.

I like your blacked out chrome bits BTW.

anybody think this might be close to a write off?

Sorry to hear of your misfortune. It's the most sickening feeling when you hear that bang and cruch sound. I had my front end damaged just recently in an accident and it cost $9000 to restore the car back to like new. The guy did a fantastic job but he's in Melbourne. Atleast you have come out of this unhurt, both physically and finacially.

No way, my front end was worse than that. I doubt there is any damage done to the main frame or subframe of the car. But leave that to the experts to decide.

mainframe prob is fine but subframe would be a bit damaged since the bumper isn't sitting right.

As long as you don't come out of pocket then your all good but once fixed not worth keeping it.

harder to sell a car when it's been in an accident.

unity
04-03-2009, 02:11 PM
That's true but there won't be anything to dislike about the car when it comes back. Interms of performance, nothing will change because there hasn't been any damage to vital components in the front. And ofcouse there may be sentimental value too ie like first car etc, etc
If I get 300,000 km or 10 years out of my euro I will be happy with that. I wouldn't care after that what I get for my car.

Crapdaz
04-03-2009, 02:16 PM
yeh true, that's why i am either keeping it for the next couple of years or parting out soon so i can move around places more easily, since i am too low.

Wonder what the damage value is atm for his car.
Unity how did you damage your front?

I was hit by an old Commodore. Was travelling along a major road and had the right of way (green light) and was hit by a car, coming in the opposite direction, making a right turn at the intersection. She just pulled out from nowhere. Her car sustained only minor damage but mine suffered a bit more. What added to the cost of repairs would have been the fact that only new and genuine Honda parts were used in the repair.
My Euro is the first new car that I have ever owned so I plan on keeping it no matter what. Whilst it's great owning a new car there are so many worries and hassles. Always worrying about keeping the car looking brand new, worrying about getting hit in car parks etc. When your car gets older and out of warranty then stuff like that doesn't bother you anymore.

Send to a proper smash repair to fix it... they will use all original parts and fix it as good as new....

yeah i got in touch with 2 honda dealers and BMW to point me to the repairers they use.

just so angry that this happened! was happy with how the car is coming along! they have to spray from the bonnet join along the roof all the down to the skirt just infront of the rear tire, thats if there is no major cracking on the rear quarters which he is pretty sure there is! so it could end up being a a write off!

oh and when i get the repair costs ill chuck it up here, just glad i dont/my insurance doesnt have to pay for it!

well at this stage yes! think thatll mean a new car coz its still under 3 yrs old... but it might depend on who his insurance is with

as i said it's better to get rid of it then causing you grief once all fixed.

Why does it matter who the other drivers insurance is with? I thought it's your insurance policy that stipulates what options are available to you in the event of an accident.

Good idea, and also make sure all your costs are covered as you are not at fault. This includes your hire car whilst your car is being prepared and the cost for Honda or a reputable mechanic to go over all the repairs as a final inspection.

i heard that when the insurance stuff gets settled, the other party actually receives like a letter that resembles you getting sued for all the costs, parts, repairs, rights to hire a car etc or something. but i think that may be only between insurance companies, and only as a legal formality. but it does kinda ensure you your entitlements and you can stipulate just like in a real lawsuit, what damages your seeking, kinda. just gotta check what entitlements there are.

still no news :( but im going to the repairer today, said he would have it all apart mid morning to get all the pics and quote done to send to the insurance company, and repairs start monday.... hopefully!

as for the car hire, its like a legal thing, i pay for the hire car, then at the end they send a legal letter to the other company stating my loses and what they need to pay to cover it, which is kinda sucky coz its gunna be a while to get repaired! so im driving a VERY old land cruiser around, windows dont work etc lol better than nothing though!

Don't wait around. Get the insurance company to organise the hire car and go and pick it up right now. You will be reimbursed for all out of pocket expenses except for the petrol. I received my money back from the insurance company just a few days after I had returned my hire car. I was given a Nissan Tida. Not quite a Euro but it got me from A to B.

i was going to, but i cant afford to have a hire car for 3 - 4 weeks, too many bills etc!!! the old landy will do to get me around for now :o

I was hit by a truck & had almost the same damage 3 days before I traded my Euro in on a new CU2. Almost the same amount of damage by the look of it with most damaged caused by the trucks Bullbar. Cost to fix 7k & 10 days.

Could not open the boot, luckily had just emptied it the night before. Dealer still went ahead with the deal luckily, dropped the damaged car at the repairer on the Friday afternoon, picked the new car up on the Saturday morning.

I don't think the damages will pass the market value (the instance it does, then it's a write off)

went down to the repairers today, not as bad as they thought it was going to be! no damage to the chasis, went over it by about 1cm!!! parts are on order from honda, on a plane tomorrow or wednesday, they should have it in the spray booth by the end of the week, so only another 2 weeks without her... think im gunna have to spend some more money on it when i get it back... think cams and ECU are sounding pretty nice right about now, ive missed her so much!!! haha

anybody think this might be close to a write off?Not even close. I did much worse damage last March in mine in a stupid accident at Broadway. Think corner of a breezeblock wall, straight into the rear RHS corner. I don't want to think about how much it cost to fix it, but I saw it in the various stages of repair out of curiosity and my panelbeater did some funky shit to get it back into shape.

Always sad seeing damage on a Euro. Even when one randomly passes me on the road I feel a little twinge. We are all so pathetic.

When mine rolled into the pole I punched a crack into our wooden tool shed with like 1" thick wood and had a bruised hand for like 3 days.

But I remember the feeling, it's suprisingly similar to the feeling you get when someone close to you dies. I took the bumper off the car and just sat on the ground looking at it for just under 4 hours. Didn't move, eat, sleep, talk to anyone... just sat there. No wonder my parents think I'm insane :p

What did you get quoted? PM me if you'd prefer to keep it private :)

With cams + ECU your Euro would definitely be up there with the most powerful!

I had tears in my eyes when I read about your ding. I hear you, brother.

The first time I scratched mine it was in my parking space at home, I was howling and tearing at my hair, my neighbour came running downstairs to see what was wrong.
