a friend at uni asked me whether a B16A, with
CTR/ITR pistons,
CTR Rods,
CTR Valves + Springs (we can alllllllll see where this is going cant we?)
a good pair of cams,
I/H/e

Will be able to rev to 10,000 Rpm reliably? I said no on the basis that the Ek9 or s2000 doesnt even rev to 10,000 Rpm...

he said i was DEAD WRONG!!!

well? :D

btw...i'mn going to print this for him...

ps: tell me i'm right

edit: this includes an emanage in the equation

no. because first and formost, his running a stock revlimit with just an e-manage.

I love you Weq! : )

ok say he got an Hondata or Microtech? Reliable 10,000?

The Question your friend should be asking is does it make any power past 8900? hence no reason to rev to 10k.

haha tru.. but some people just love reving hard... look at initail D for instance... wouldnt u love to rev to 11000??

i know i would... ok then...so would it MAKE power to 10k?

to rev to 10k he'd at least need aftermarket rods, valve springs and a timing belt, probably also the crank should be lightened, balanaced, blueprinted, etc. this is just to make sure the engine doesn't destroy it's self straight away (i'm sure pornstar or blkcrx can adda few other things to the category)

Now to make power to 10k he will also need after martket pistons (with higher compression ratio) aftermarket cams (toda c's anyone ?) aftermarket headers / hi flow cat / exhaust piping / muffler. a port and polish and new intake manifold probably wouldn't go astray either.

non of the ctr/itr bits are really made to go to 10k.

i'm sure there are tons i have forgotten

Hmmm in short no way your dead correct.
The only cam’s I know of that would make power up at 10,000rpm would be Toda Spec C cams if the compression of the engine was high enough, and on CTR pistons this is not the case, there comp is just physically to low, to make power at that high RPM.
Ok if you friend said ok fine I don’t wanta make power up to 10,000rpm I just want to rev up to it for “wank” factor, again this is not possible with his setup

There’s still a big falw in his setup. Using Toda cam’s without the correct spring pressure will cause the inner spring 2 just give way and break especially at high rpm
The strength of the rods, and even the balance of the engine at that RPM would just never hold up unless it was balanced and he used stronger rods.

So we have CTR pistons = comp to low
CTR rods = to weak
CTR Springs won’t match the cams thus will break
Intake / exhaust meh just doing this doesn’t mean you can make power to 10k
Last but not least is problem of using emanage
Emanage only lets your map fuel and ignition (if you have all the harnesses) map to 8000rpm (see picture below) and the max vtec point you can use is 7000rpm
On toda C cam’s vtec comes on around 7500rpm on a mild – high comp engine so the emanage just won’t be able 2 support any large cams let alone rev to 10,000rpm
So yeah the answer is “NO”

Yessssssssssssssssssss i just won 2 decks of marlboro Reds!!!!!!!!! : ) hahahahahha

but on a more serous side... would his mods actually have been good? like how much more power/torque/drivability is that setup?

nup would have spent the money on aftermarket parts, back 2 primary school he goes....

what do u mean by aftermarket parts James? i mean if he was going to stick to NA, wot pistons/rods/springs would he have gotten for that price?

btw Off topic for a sec, i'm going to get a HOndata off u and tuned BY YOU by end of these summer holidays James

if he has all the right internal and electronics for 10k rpm, is the B16A block strong enough?

Just told your friend to ship a Spoon engine here and do a swap......no problem to rav it up to 10000rpm :D .......

PS:I think the EK9 in Initial-D is a Spoon civic demo car. :)
