Question for the guys with aftermarket headers. Have you done anything to reduce the heat emitted fromt the headers to the engine bay?

I don't want to take the headers off and wrap them in heat wrap...too much work :(

Is there a way to use the factory heat shield? Has anyone successfully re-used the heat shield?

I've got Comptech headers and i haven't bothered even trying to modify the OEM heatshield to fit them.I've had them on for approx.15mths.and no heat issues.

as tony has said, the K series engines run pretty hot either way so doesn't matter.

Yea im just a little concerned coz the clutch fluid reservoir is above the headers and there are a whole heap of pipes, connections and wires close to the headers..

thanks for the reply guys!

My header is exposed and I have a wire for my oil pressure and temperature sensors running alongside the header. No problems with melting.

i make it 4 out of 4 for no heat issues with exposed headers

You have Comptech headers as well? What do you think of them?

they're good... the overall torque is better, more marginally low end, but i feel like the top end 5-7k is much better. i almost fuked my trans the first time because i didn't shift quick enough, i didn't realise i'd already hit 7k rpm

right now i feel like there's a hiss though, but i think it's in my head. im going to do a hiflow cat sometime this month, see how that works. definitely haven't heard any rattles, but i did zorst at the same time

how's yours? any problems?

Yeah, good too.Torque in the mid range is where the improvement is most noticeable, top end is good too.No hissing.sounds almost like stock.

AFAIK, you cannot use the factory heatshield with the aftermarket headers, whether they be comptech, DC Sports, Toda, Maxim Works, etc.....

I had the Maxim Works on my euro and there was no problem with the heat at all....coupled with a good exhaust system, you should feel it "pull" a little better towards the top of the revrange and VTEC engagement should be noticeable...

No i didn't.There doesn't seem to be any cat back on the market with twin exhausts that gives proven gains.I hope someone can prove me wrong.Any recommendations?

you're right tony. there really isnt any twin exhausts that give you gains. to get any real noticeable gains, you're gonna have to go with single
