Hi guys just new to the forum! Im looking at buying my sisters 2004 Accord Euro....I went to check it out the other day and noticed some crazy scrubbing out of the tyres. On all four tyres the inside corner is literally scrubbed away! Not just the usual uneven wearing out of the shoulders that you get from cars with neg camber (such as the Holdens with IRS) its almost down to the metal! The car has done 50,000kms mainly highway driving and there is still a fair bit of tread left. It has not been in a prang either. I was just wondering if this is a common problem with these or something that can be rectified quite easliy. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I had a 2003 euro that I put 17 inch wheels on with 225/45 tyres. It always had a problem with wear on the inside of the tyres .I had wheel alignments done every 5k but at 30,000km the tyre were bald on the inside edge.Different tyre services tried to fix the problem but nothing worked. The offset was not 55 but i can not remember what it was.

Take it to a good tyre place and get a 4 wheel alignment.BTW where do you live?If you tell us where we can then recommend some places to go.

does your sister fang the car around cornering without worries?

on stock rubbers 40-50xxxkm would be pretty good.

thats considered normal, especially for FWD cars when corner the inner shoulder normally wears down first.

just go get an alignment done and replace rubbers and you should be fine.

no my sister drives just normal, no fanning....mainly straight road kms.

lol.... probably your sis never take care of the car.... no alignment or balancing done before...

agreed as above, normally you should rotate tyres + wheel alignment every 8-10xxx km service and it should be fine

Check tyre pressure as well.Try running 36psi.

according to the service books, the tyres have been rotated and balanced at 10k and 20k kms. Its going into Honda this week so we'll see what they say....looks like a set of new tyres and a good wheel alignment!

Just out of curiosity how much neg camber do these cars have from factory? I measured it with a set square and it seems to have a fair bit!

Front Caster angle: 3°12' ± 45'

Front camber angle: 0°00' ± 45'

Front toe-in: 0 ± 2 mm (0 ± 0.08 in.)

Rear camber angle: -1°00' ± 30'

Rear toe-in: 2 ± 2 mm (0.08 ± 0.08 in.)

I have had a few alignments and my tyres are still showing inner wear.

does the camber get adjusted/correct with a wheel aalignment if its out?

There is one that can't adjust Camber or Castor but I can never remember.

if your on stock,

there is very limited adjustment they can do for camber.
they can only fix up the toe in/out to correct it and reduce wear.

but most adjustments will be very minimal.

At 50,000kms, the car should have had new tyres by now! Anything less is dangerous.

wouldn't take it as rule of thumb, rather a case by case basis

it depends on the tire you are using and the road you drive as well... some tires can last 60k km while some goes after 30k km. Its better to look at the thread. Also check the date the tire is manufactured.

never buy old tyres too, cause older the tyres harder the rubber will be and more it'll wear and tear quicker cause rubber hardens.

not much you can really do about it but keep checking pressures and rotating for some reason euros are alot harder wearing on the corners then the rest of range

perhaps its time you invest in some good tires instead of cheapos rubbers, or could be your wheels are setup badly, over cambered or your driving skills are bad. Loosing traction at starting and braking too late or too hard all the time.

hahah same buddy i got them atm on my gramlights.
been to 2-3cruises to blue mtns + palm beach and also 1 track day @ WP and they are still holding pretty well with excellent tyre wear... slightly more on the shoulder though on the inner side and constantly occasionally spirited driving on the streets.

Too bad uni holds me back from driving out stupid 3hr classes ruin it for 4days a week. :(

Seems like you really had been abusing them... or the road up north is worst then Sydney

Look at the miles they get from these tires, I think these tester really run them to the ground...

nice ronnie,

yeh i checked those out before buying but the difference between the dunlop sp sport maxx and the contisport3 is that conti's cost around $100 more per corner and better quality tyre so you do pay for what you get and the benefit for conti's are they are assymetric design so you can easily use them until they die.

IMO my purchase of the Toyo T1R were better than the dunlop sp sport maxx.

Tyre wear has been an issue with mum's 05. Mine isn't doing to bad.

When I was in the dealership the factory dunlops were stuffed by 20,000kms

talked to a few tyre places and they said it was normal for these. Mazda 6's aren't any better from what I have heard.

I wouldn't be expecting more then 30,000kms. How I miss getting 55,000kms out of a set of tyres on my astra (yokohama c-drives). I'm sorta hoping my pirellis wear quickly that were close to new on mine when I got it as they are crap and want some c-drives again.

You can always get C-drive for the Euro and get 55000km again.
I got only 22000km out of the Astra's stock Dunlops.
