hey guys

got my s a few months ago, running quite fine.. every now and again if i thrash it the revs would shoot up, i stopped and turned the engine off n aftah about 5 - 10 mins it would start up fine, i thought maybe it was cuz i was trashing the car b4 it was warm.. but the temp bar showed it was.. didn't think much of it, every other time it happened i just revved it a bit n it went..

although yesterday, same thing happened aftah i was giving it on a highway but the car was warmed up for a good 10 mins.. and the revs started shooting up again, but this time.. even if i revved it.. it wouldn't go down.. only up or stay at 3500...

so i took it to my mechanic and he had a look at it.. he pushed the throttle cable back and the revs dropped.. released it n went back up, told me it was a TPS sensor problem .. we unplugged the tps cable and the revs dropped but soon after the car would die.. we plug it back in n start it up the car would be ok then would shoot up, seems like the throttle cable is gettin stuck somewhere..( couldnn't think of another example). so anyway.. i got a qoute.. 430 bux for the TPS without labour plus i gotta do service which is 520 and my diff mount is almost gone.. another 400 for both.. so thats about 1350..

i was thinking to do the service.. like all the small stuff myself.. get the mechanic to do the bigger stuff.. worry about the diff mounts later n get the tps done first, cuz right now.. i dont want to drive it.. n its still shooting up if i start it up.. and i need to use the car

any ideas how i can not pay 430 for the new tps? or other ways that will help fix the problem.. keeping in mind that the price figures is onli and estimate WITHOUT labour charges..

I just bought one yesterday for $20.

Won't arrive for another 2wks but.

You can have my old one if you want - theres nothing wrong with it - I just purchased a new one because my new 68mm throttle body doesn't have a vacuum line unless you tee in the TPS.

i heard that u have to get the whole tb to replace it rather then just the tps sensor on top of the tb.

how do i connect it? like volts n stuff.. or should i just get the mechanic to do it lol

Is the TPS riveted on or screwed on? If it's riveted, you will have to angle grind them off then use screws to put it back on.That's why it's better to have a spare Throttle body so you can get the right screws before you take it off.If you take it to someone they can do it for you.Take the TB off, grind the rivets off, replace with screws and another TPS then you will need to collabrate the voltage on the TPS,here's a DIY.

I've been meaning to write it clearer but instead of using pieces of wire I taped needles onto the positive and negative probes on the voltmeter, then stuck them into the wires on the TPS.It's easy,I knew nothing about it,I just stumbled accross it on the net...
