I have been told many things about hitting VTEC in reverse, most of them say it is disabled once in reverse, but USDM versions seem to have no problem doing it:

whats the truth behind it all? unless the USDMs ECU's are different or VTEC does really engage in reverse

you can hit VTEC in any gear forward or revers
only factor is you have to go faster than 30Km/h or it will not kick in
the PGMFI ECU does not know what gear your car is in on MT

Plus you need to be doing at least more than the RPM that vtec is set to kick in at......... I dont know where the revs normally are in reverse because im usually looking behind me lol
You have to be nuts though to want to reverse with vtec haha

Exactly, what is the point of this question? Just a hunch but I think Tai is trying to say this thread is pointless.

The speedo on your dash will not move no matter how fast you go on reverse. Unless you have a digital speedo or an RSM.

the odometer might go backwards on a cable speedo but the ECU only see pulses of 5v. so it measures as forward speed

not true
the VSS sends signals regadless of direction. and its the same signal in either direction
only cable Speedo wont register
jsut 12v the vtec soleniod to kick vtec in.
why not for the hell of it and put it on uptube

Fair enough with that theory. But I don't remember my speedo moves in my EG and DC2 when I reverse my car. I only see my RSM indicating the speed.
I'll try it later after work when I collect my car later. :)

Mates done it before.
On a dc2r with i/h/e. Vtec DEFINATELY kicked in.
Reverse gear gets pretty loud at those revs though.

Hey ECU-Man, speedo moves as I go faster when I was reversing. Thanks for the great info. My bad for giving wrong information.

yeah it can. you can also do it in neutral if you've got the box set to do a standing vtec xover
