As the title says, why does a HKS GT series turbo cost twice as much as the equlivent Garrett unit? Such as GT28R vs GT2835, GT30R vs GT3037, etc...

dunno the full reason, but half is it is HKS. prolly get some reasearch and development (well atleast ud hope) then the garret units... basically think of garret as OEM kinda guys, and the tuner companys modify and tune hte turbos for better whatever..

hks turbos are from garrett aint they?
same design, maybe just the brand + the different combination of internals, that have been researched and developed..

HKS just drop some order to Garrett with specific/necessary changes to the turbine - basically is just refining and maxi the power...and just put the Tags on...but i don't think Garret make Kai51 for HKS...

tell me if i'm totally wrong...hehe...guess i can learn from my mistake...hehe..

Superior turbine housing...
Tighter clearences...
Better trims...

Turbine wheels are identical
Bearing core is identical...
Name - HKS cost more too...

hehe you can so tell this is a honda forum, they just don't rebadge it!!!
HKS turbos use garret compressors
however with R&D, hks turbos are made for high boost and better quality
so for most of us honda without an engine rebuilt, any garret turbo would be fine.

What TODA AU said and I believe the HKS turbo's also flow a little more than the plain Garret's.
