so i was driving home from work, and about 5minutes into the drive, i was going 110km/h on the m4, i noticed the car wasnt running smoothly, like it was hard to maintain speed, i had to do half throttle to maintain 100-110km/h(car is an 4spd auto) and seconds later i can smell a burnt smell coming from my aircon vents, so i pulled over and realised heaps of white smoke coming out of left front brake caliper, i also popped the bonnet but it seemed fine, the smoke stopped 0.30-2minutes later.

a tow truck saw me and stopped and towed my car home, the guy who drove me home happened to be an mechanic and said it most probably will be a ceased caliper but hes not too sure.

so does anyone know what the cause of this problem might be?

thanks in advanced

edit, the car is a 1az 2002 rav4

It does sound like the caliper has "ceased" working because it is seized...

Best solution is a new or rebuilt caliper. Cheapest would be a used caliper from a wrecking yard.

yeah you're gonna need to replace the caliper.

usually happens to rear calipers when the handbrake is put on hard after hard driving. happened to me. Needed to get a new caliper
