View Full Version : diff pressure gauge?
i was going through some websites but lost the link -.- but will a diff pressure gauge indicate accurately to when a diff will blow? even though it will most probably weaken it anyway but some info would be great =)

If stuff like that existed people wouldnt have blown diffs/gearboxes etc. etc. A diff is not a battery, it doesn't have a 100% bar and does down everyday.
Yea there's a way to measure things like temperature/pressure and that but there's no way to actually measure each tooth on the gears to know how much has chipped off how weak it's getting..
Even if it were possible to tap into the diff and measure the pressure/temp it wont tell you when its going to blow, the gauge will just peek and kaboom your diffs gone, or the diff will go before the gauge will detect it if it does detect it lol.
Probably the only way is every time you drain your diff fluid you hope that there isn't a massive chunk of metal stuck on the magnetic drain bolt.
Anyway just incase you don't know what a differential is have a read :)

i see i see makes sense.. nah i have a fair idea about what a diff is lol. i may sound stupid asking the question i did but meh lol. ta vyets

Dude, yeah it common for circuit cars to have a diff pressure gauge or light . Generally these are fitted when you install a diff cooler. an external oil pump is required to circulate oil to cooler. There are a few options for S2K's.
but obviously it wont make any effect as burnouts and what not will destroy it non the less.

yep sure will. the factory crown wheel starts to get stress fractures at the ends of the teeth. The teeth either slowly start the deteriorate and this is quite obvious by hearing a slight whine under accel. Or they snap off, from generally a hard launch, burnout, re-clutch, or tramp. I you do drive your car hard. You should change your diff oil every 5,000kms and also fit a magnetic drain plug. This will help catch any small metal fragments they may wear/break off and might help your diff live a longer life. Diff oil changes are often neglected, especially with torsion LSD's.
yeah i think i kind of have that whine im not quite sure what it is.. if its comming from the engine or comming from something else, you can barly hear it though.. and its not constant.. well i might look into changing my diff oil sometime this weekend..

Generally diff whine doesn't come and go. When they start whining it's there for good.

i might check it out.. i dont even think its diff whinge.. have you guys heard the little whistle noise when your lightly acclerating? like it sounds like a bell lol.. it has always tripped me out but never knew what it was..

yeah, thats normal, as you've put a pod on. The slight whistle is caused from the butterfly on your throttle body. No dramas there.
oh lol, always wondered.. gotta love forums lol.
