Out of curiosity i had considered buying the driveline of a s2000 and transplanting it into a small old school car, toyed with some ideas and came to the realisation i can just go out and buy a s2000.
Long story short i came across a clean s2000 only thing is it has 16000 k's .
any major service coming up? reliability? things to look out for? how many k's does everyone else who has a 2000 model have?

If it has a full honda service history, looks like it's never been modified. It could still be a decent buy for the price. Many would say steer clear. However if there easy k's, should be no real problems. Check for noisy tapets, they would more than likely need doing. Bearing noises from the gearbox and diff whine. As for the transplant, i do know a of datto 1600 with full S2K engine and driveline. It's not finished yet, but soon.

well if u work it out thats normal cause a year the arv ks done is 20xxx ks by a peason a year. If its a 2000 model its been 9 years so 20 k a year works out to be 180 xxx ks but then aganz it is a bit high for a sports car.

Hi VTECD,

What's your location?

As for my car, it's a 2000 model and has close to 130K kms on it and it's still going quite well. As for reliability Honda engines are quite good.

Just for your information, if you are in Sydney, a friend of mine just recently bought a 2000 S2000 with 112K kms on it and got a pre-purchase inspection done at a place called "Proconcept". They do a thorough check on the car and scan the entire car for picking up even the things you cannot see or hear, even by test driving. I personally have seen the inspection my self and it's great. My friend bought the car after a written inspection report and a good talk with the owner of "Proconcept", who seems to be non-biased, bought the car and he is still happy!

Just to give you an idea the car gets scanned with genuine Honda scanning tool, then used a paint thickness testing tool to see if any of the panels were resprayed, after that the car goes on to the hoist for under body inspection, then goes on to the alignment machine for alignment test, any torsions on the body, etc...

For a better explanation give them a call, it's 02) 9807 4488.

I will definately give them a buzz...
I am in sydney.
I really like this car and whilst the k's worry me,from what i can see it's been a solid well maintained car with history from day one. The guy is the first owner who bought it new for 68k.. it has never been modified and the price is reasonable.it's always been garaged,it doesn't have paint fade or headlight fade like alot of the other s2k's
Only thing that worries me is the k's and how quickly they can accumulate..

cars are made to be driven.

if the engine and/or gearbox shits itself, rebuild it and mod the **** out of it.

just make sure that the price you pay is lower....................................

Hello,

AZN Allstart, good thing I keep all the business cards huh.... :)
They are at "1A Mellor St, West Ryde. The guy you want to talk to is Joshua and his number is 02)9807 4488.

I'm sorry but I can't exactly remember the price as it was my friend's car that we were looking at so you're going to have to give them a call..
Sorry... :(

VTECD, If you have a good feel about the car definately ask Joshua, because they do the whole ECU scan, etc and you can definately tell if the car had issues before or not directly...

Good luck guys. But personally if you get the pre-inspection done from Proconcept, I don't see how you can go wrong mechanically... The rest, of course, is up to you to bargin once you know the car is mechanically sound... :)

Hi,
I've just picked up my '00 S2000, and its done 91,000 km.
I think some people might be put off, but as AZN Allstar said, it is normal for 20,000 km a year.

Hey Spuds,
How much did you pay for your S2000 and what was better about the car than the other S2000s that you looked at? Is the carpet worn through? Is the rear window clear?

F20C
06-06-2009, 03:36 AM
plastic X or the other thing cleans rear windows up quite nicely lol. (so it could be missleading?) anyway mine was clean as a whistle looked brand new. infact the car did. 50,000 ks for an 01.. nothing was worn but as time goes on and its an everyday driven car now.. it happens but oh well. Oh i payed $35,000 for mine.

hi guys
im new to this forum and im a p plater. I just brought a 2000 model Honda S2000 from Fowles auctions as it was a repo'd finance vehicle for $22,450 and has only done 118,000 kms. Yea pretty low Kms =D. The colour is the Laguna Blue Pearl and has full service history and the engine has been serviced every 10 thousand Kms from honda. =D
ive clocked 2000 kms in 3 weeks rofl hehe. i love it

Dude thats alot of bloody k's in 3 weeks.

OMG.JAI xD
22-06-2009, 11:22 AM
I reckon a later model car with higher kilometres is a better buy.

One. You know its genuine K's.
Two. You know its a daily driven car. If it lasted that many K's, its been taken care of.
Three. It would be cheaper.

If you can grab a high km s2k for let say around the 20-25 mark. compare it to a 30-40k s2k.
The difference in money, id rather rebuild everything on the high km s2k.
Really youd end up with a car with 0km.
Sure youd be carless for a while, but hey. Make some sacrifices. =]

lmao yea you gotta point there. im pretty sure the car not been touched with the kms because it has all been documented in the service books by honda on princess highway and has been serviced every 10,000kms.

yea yusuf..ive done a lot of kms. i love my car and love cruising.

think about it its an 00

we're in 09

do the maths

its done well below the ave. kmz for daily driving.

can't expect it to have 50,000kmz its pretty much 10 years old

we r talking about how i clocked 2000kms in 3 weeks of me getting the car.
not 120,000 in 9 years. and even 120,000 in 9 years is nothing compared to wat a lot of s2000's on now. im guessing it was a weekend car =D

Well I am really envious of your great buy. You must have been in the right place at the right time tamay_S2K! What was the general condition of the car overall (like condition of paintwork/carpets/wheels/roof and rear windscreen?).Does it have a new clutch and any inside mods like new stereo etc?

Colour is actually Monte Carlo Blue. :p

Laguna (I don't believe) was ever offered here in Australia - atleast not prior to 2006.

I did the same. First month I did roughly 2000KM's.... any excuse to drive it and enjoy it, evne make excuses to take it for a drive....then I was like wtf.... I'm driving my re-sale goodbye. lol.

GUYS! It's a forum. Not a chat line, get into msgr or something.

X2. I'm getting tired of it ; and as I mentioned in PM, so too are other members. It stops now, or I'll make it stop.

whats the point of a "msgr" if we can just repost it in another thread? that way it will be on topic.

Refer below.

Forums are about information related to a particular topic. TRUE. There not about how hectic 2 s2k's are cruising around. You guys know one other, my point being, pick up the phone and call him. No one wants to here about non topic related stuff. There you go i wasn't even abusive.
