When was the last time you serviced it, and changed fuel filter etc?

before i brought the car it was serivced and that was about 1 month ago the pwner before did it and no smell of petrol.the car has a stock exhuast system but i think its a little louder than normal when if it has a exhaust leak it wouldnt take that much petrol right??
cheers guys

depending on how big your leak is
but, yeah it can chew that much petrol with an exhaust leak. in the serivce, do you know what they changed? they might not of changed everything that could be linked to it also.

Is your fuel gauge accurate?
Fill up til full, drive until the needle reaches the middle, then write down the distance you travelled. Fill up to full and divide number of litres with the number of kms drive.

yep thats what i did filled her up and only got 85kms for half the tank

runs it untill your light goes on. That's if the dc4 has a petrol light. When the light goes on it means it should have around 10 litres left

So how many litres did you have to fill to get it back up to full tank (pump stops on its own) for that 85km?

My dc4 is quite the same, it now hits only 150km or less for half tank of petrol.
There are no signs of petrol leaks or anything like that.
This could be due to my driving style however, might do a ECU reset and see if it improves to what used to be at 200km half tank.

The gauge could be inaccurate. FIll up to full tank, drive around, then fill up to full tank again. Report the kms driven and litres it took to fill back up

^^ if you started with a full tank, then that gives 13.4 L/100km. That's similar to being in a traffic jam almost all of the time. If you are not in heavy stop-start traffic everyday, then I would check the tyre pressures, check the spark plug partnumber, gaps and condition, replace the fuel filter and finally, check the O2 sensor (not sure how you are going to check it since it is not easy short of trying another O2 sensor unit)

thats driving the car normal no heavy foot at all what spark plug should i use for a dc4??
atm im resetting the ecu to see if that helps
thanks for your inputs guys

Try driving like a lil biitch and see how that goes.
My car feels like it munches petrol, barely reaching 300km for a full tank. Compared to every other integra, my car eats up alot of petrol. I'll change my spark plugs and fuel filter and see how that goes.

that is definitly not normal man, i get about 450km in mine till the light comes on and thats without granny driving around!
check all the things aaronng listed above dude, something is really out of whack if your are getting that terrible mileage.

I seriously don't think anyone is bragging. They're probably just stating how much fuel they're using up for him to get an idea of the average fuel consumption.
My car eats up petrol, and I'm not pissed off that all these other people are posting how much petrol their Integra's consume. Don't understand where you're coming from with that man.
You could just go to any workshop. Check all the things people have posted before, then if the problem is still present, go to the local mechanics. Any would do I rekon.

check ur fuel tank underneath, maybe it has gone inside by a hump or anything similar....

Interesting problem.
Thinking out loud, if it's a faulty O2 sensor the ecu should be throwing an error code and a warning light in the instrument cluster. If it's faulty spark plugs then you should feel a power loss, and probably the same with the injectors as if they are overfueling the ecu should be trying to compensate and you should pick that up. If it's the ecu throwing lots of fuel in then there would normally be a reason for that (like the O2 sensor - ask me how I know) and a code would be thrown again. Actually that much fuel should be giving the O2 sensor and ecu plenty of reasons to complain about the air fuel ratio.
You are not smelling any petrol, which kind of knocks out a simple leak.
I would personally give the fuel side a close inspection while its running to see if there is a leak at pressure. Check the colour of the spark plugs - they are a good guide to the conditions inside the combustion chamber, and you don't want wet black.
Then I'd try a honda specialist service and get them to hook the car up to an analyser to see that all the settings are right. You should have solved it by that stage. As I'm in perth I can't advise on one to try.
But if nothing comes of that, then you start to look at 'out there' causes. For example. temporarily replace the ecu - a honda wrecker should be happy to allow you to borrow one for a week. Check the cams - they oem or aftermarket (i have toda B's and a very very thirsty engine).

hey .. my car is a 1997 gsi manual with a exhaust and extractors. It gets roughly 350-370km's for a full tank..which im quite sure isn't right for a 1.8 litre....how much should the integ get 400+?
1. would tire pressure or my car slightly turns the the left could also contribute to this?
2. and i read that the thermostat could also be a contributor to lower km's,
3. i have also read in another forum that someone had replaced their clutch fan which hence improved their fuel economy...i have a fan which sits like nearby to the bonnet latch that fan doesn't move...the previous owner said it was sensered to when it gets warmer it will move...idk but i saw pictures of a clutch fan on the internet and it looks like it is that on my car not moving at all when the engine is on.
4. and if these needs to be check is there any costs that would be involved?
spark plugs
02 sensor
ecu
soz for the noob questions i just bought my first car and just threw in whatever i thought was revelent to others with not so good fuel economy.

Not too sure that the fan will increase your fuel economy by that much..
The 02 sensor ecu spark plugs and also air filter could contribute to it alot though. As for the Spark plugs and air filter that depends if you did them on your last service and how long ago that service was.
The o2 sensor and Ecu will have to be checked by professionals so might set you back a little bit I suggest checking the air filter and spark plugs first.
But I notice how you say you have an exhaust system and extractors so they may have tuned the Ecu to Increase fuel and air mixture which would decrease fuel economy aswell..

im currently sitting on 280km with < 1/4 tank left...
Do you think its probably best for me to get my o2 sensor checked? I've generally been able to get around 350km until i have to hit the pump (i dont let it go till fuel light however, just low enough). Never been able to get >400km full tank :(
Also to note.... i believe the fuel gauge is extremely inaccurate and highly susceptible to changes upon an incline or when taking a fast corner. I can never get a proper reading out of it... so maybe that could be the reason why i'm 'thinking' i'm getting a terrible fuel economy. Gotta do a test at the pump - im usually pumping 35 to 40L for full tank

400km to the tank isn't that bad it really depends how you drive if you thrash it some times it will reduce the total out come by abit... Also depends on what year your car is if it's quite old you can't expect to get the same as it did when the motor was new.
I get about 550 out of my tank with just a little bit of thrashing and only me driving around and maybe another one person in the car. I think if I drove normally with no thrashing at all though and depending how owften I go on the motor way I would get about 600+ easy.
And yes do a test first before you go out and spend money on some one else checking the o2 sensor.
There's just too many things that come into play for me to make a whole list.

i had that oproblem before with my integra gsi aswell.....but after i change the cluster its back to normal, now i get about 480 km per tank with a few high revs.......so im pretty damn sure its the thee fuel gauge problem, change it or u can pull it out and check if anything is wrong......trust me......been there, and done that....hope u'll find it out soon, cas its pretty annoying

yep its definitely the fuel gauge. Today i went to the pump station and refilled about 32L when my fuel gauge suggest that i had about 1 tiny bar left of fuel.
Looks like i probably do get good fuel economy since the car has a 50L tank, but i'm too scared for it to go all the way down on the gauge or wait for the light to go on lol.

i had that problem on my old teg. it was completely stock, n all the mechanic did was remove the injectors n run it under pressure with a some fluid for a bout half an hour or so, basically cleaning n wat not, n dat was it my car started to get twice the amount of ks as it did b4.
Also a mate of mine on his teg vtir was gettin about 360-380ks n he claims that wen he replaced the thermostat he started reachin 450ks but that was probably because he had the skunk2 IM along with all other boltons however his car was tuned and equiped with hondata
any1 else experience this?

You can also clean the fuel injectors by pouring in a bottle of fuel injection cleaner every now a then with your fuel.

13L/100km is alot of fuel man...
Integra uses only abit more than half that. I couldn't afford to spend that much on fuel, what about when you have to go to the city for a whole day it would use a whole tank lol.

Well none of us can really compare our fuel usage because we all drive diverently and drive in different areas (city or motor way).. And well if you thrash it every now and then your not going to get as much.
Plus stock or mods depends what you have actually done to the engine..ect

last time driving to port macqurie from sydney and back(800km+) my DC4 end up with 6.5L/100km
but in city driving im around 10L/100km, but if you talk about full time stop/start driving, HARD REVVING BITCH driving with air conditioning, if u rev to 7000rpm every red light and sit in gear 1 all day with air conditioning on. B18B2 takes up to 14L/100km or more! it's no joke,
but as for your problem... before u go to a workshop and find out what's going on.. try to park ur car in a lock-up garage at night, install alarm or a traditional 'Latch' locking system on ur fuel cap cover... i think some1 is stealing petrol from ur car using a hose/tube. u know those 1-way hose with the ball inside. people open ur fuel cap... slide that tube into ur fuel tank and then shake that hose with that ball will create a vaccum effect in the hose and suck the fuel out of ur car :P be careful of that.. ALOT of people are doing that last year when unleded were $1.8 a liter!
