Hi all, my CL9 is due for 50k servos, as i'm just a noob for honda so could u please recommended me which oil to be use? and what are the difference btw synthetic and mineral[semi-syn]? what does its do to the engine?

how much u guys reckon it will cost me anyway for the type of servo? i called AutoMASTER, they have special major service for $198 which cover more stuff than the original log book, the guys there say it will be way better for me to get its full services instead of follow the log book for 50k, they will also sign the log book[anyway my warranty voided]... what do we think?

last matter, i'd ambipur leakage on my dash, luckily i wiped its off straight when i saw its, didnt cause much damage to the dash but still leave kind of white stain dribbed, i called ambipur to claim on wed, they sound alright as they will send someone to have a look to see if they could fix or send its to honda[anyway got quote $5166 from em' as they said it has to be change the whole control+air vent panel...WTF],

i saw the post here, aarong was recommended someone to ask PANDA[crx] as he been through this sorta thing before, can someone recommend me what should i do now? since the ambipur seem to run away from this problem from their slow reaction... many thank guys, damn i'd tried upload the foto but i was failed for so many times, WHY???

ambipur will eat in to the shiny parts of your dash... dont spill it... I got a small dot, but luckily not too visible.

The lower the number, the lower the temperature. The W basically means winter and the second number is for how high a temperature it can handle without thinning out. i think thats it.. can someone correct me if im wrong?? tia

I thought burning oil is a bad thing.. ?
But I believe lower numbers means a thinner oil, which is better for newer cars. Where as older cars need thicker oil or else they might burn the oil...

50000km is not old. My car has almost 80000km and I am using 5w-30 with no problems. Works good on the race track as well. Castrol Edge 0w-40 is a good oil, just expensive when not on sale.

As for your ambipur damage, unfortunately the only way is to change the radio/aircon console panel. That was what they had to do for my damage too.

Did you mount yours straight or at an angle? Get Ambipur to pay for the replacement then. Mine was caused by error, hence the repair was carried out at no charge.

i just put its straight as the direction on box, i called ambipur on wed, they gave me referrence number, they will contact me back to get their assessor to have a look to see what they can do, until now i havent heard off them, now all i do everyday is clean its with water soaked clothes then wipe its again with the armorall dashboard protection, trying to get the shining back, it's seem abit better but still can visibly see the white stain, went for the quote @ panel beater, they said $5166 as i'll have to change the whole lots of control+air vent panel, i'm trying to upload pic but doesnt seem like i can @ all, i dunno WHY

hey all

just something else to throw in the mix.

shell have re-done their helix ultra range, ive been using their 5w-40 synthetic in my 03 euro and its been running nicley on it, seems to rev a bit smoother right to the redline, definately better than what the previous owner had been using.

Ive had few people raving about Nulon's 10w-40 full synthetic at work aswell

i'd followed the instruction to registered with photobucket, i just copy da link off their, trying to pasted its in the upload url box, came up as INVALID links, tried this like around 10+ times neither to da option of upload straight from hdd, all shown UPLOAD failed, any suggestion?

anyway i'd made up my mind on da oil to be use, guess i'll just go for the 5W40 else 5W35 either castol edge or valvoline, they ranges around 50-60/5 litres container, how much oil will we be using to change the engine oil in this service? will its eat up all 5 ltrs or not that mcuh n i should just buy 2 ltrs bottle instead?

You'll need 4.2-4.5L depending on how long you let it drain. Buy a 5 litre bottle. Two 2 litre bottles are the same price as 5L.

oh ok, just search around again, seem there is no thing such 5W35 only seen 5W30 else 5W40 or 0W40, which brand are the best among all these lines

ELF, VALVOLINE, SHELL HELIX, MOTUL? which one would u choose if u have to pick one outta all?

i sourced all these range around 50-60 buckz so gonna get them tomorrow, still decide if

1. i should just follow the log book, bring my own engine oil+filter[again should i get original honda or just any aftermarket type, will it make much noticable in performance?]... that will cost me $60 for labor, altogether around $130

or

2. get its done full services @ automaster livor, for $198 subtract with the cost of oil+filter[once again forget to ask how much cheaper would its be for bringing my own stuffs, well barry said aBIT cheapo but hope he wont come up with rediculous thing such 20 buckz cheaper with my own parts]...this will cover alots of stuff eg. wiper blade replace, all fluid top-up include coolant, computer tunes, car wash etc... eieiei will also get free REGO for the kids too...anyway i never run honda car before so i dont really know if all the parts&fluid have to USE ITS ORIGINAL to perform the best or just any aftermarket will do[ assuming automaster will be using ANY AFTERMARKET parts&fluid in this major service since it's quite cheaPO]

WHICH OPTION SHOULD I GO FOR?

PS: state both option will sign the logbook and this is 50k services[after i just bought this car for 3 weeks]

I got Castrol Edge 5w30 for $40 when Supercheap had it on special. Ive driven about 1000ks with it, engine feels smoother and got abit more mileage.

I suggest you stay with OEM filters and fluids.

well guess i'll just go for castrol edge 5w30 then supercheap have them on now for 47.99, my car is 3 yrs 2006 model

like i said i'm assuming automaster will use aftermarket part in this services to cut the cost of profit margin for themself since they do all this for just $198 hence it will be real hard for me to use the OEM parts/fluid for this, btu will its much much of performance in btw OEM or aftermarket, can anyone tell me please ?

bump.
Couldn't find any dedicated "how much did you pay for your 50k service" thread, so just wondering if anybody could help.

Normally I go OEM oils, but if I can save money I'll bring my own. Any oil recommendations?

I made some phone calls, lowest price was $205, highest was $295.
Providing my own oil, the lowest price was $162 and the highest was $235.

I'm amazed how there can be such a massive difference in price.

Where you live?Bring your own oil. What dealer was the cheapest? Also make sure they change the oil filter, logbook says to change every 20K:eek:.Eg.20K,40K,60k.

I'm in Melbourne.

Unless there is a sale soon at autobarn or somewhere, I'm just gonna go OEM oil as I'm strapped for cash atm.

As for the oil filter, if it's not in the book, they're not going to change it unless I ask them to (is that what you were getting at?).

I've used both oil's in my euro. Edge 0-40 and Motul 5-40w

I found the Motul to hold up a little more longer than the edge. Also, Motul burns next to no oil and engine seems quiter with Motul? Dunno y.

Found the Engine with Motul 8100 Xcess a lot smoother, quieter and freer reving after moving over to it at the 10,000K service . No burning of oil either. Goes a little dark quite quickly thou probably due to the detergent qualities of the oil.

Yes.But my dealer does it every 10K anyway, just ask if yours does.As for oil i use Edge 0W-40 but 5W-30 is good to if you're on a budget.

thanks for the advice,
going for edge 5w-30, cos I'm poor (It's on "sale" at Repco for $40 and I have a 20% off voucher)

Also, the price difference between bringing my own oil and using honda fluids was $43, and I was only going to bring my own oil if I could do it for cheaper than the price margin.
