I took my 3 month old Civic into the dealers to have the door adjusted to my surprise I was told my Clutch and the Engine Bearings had to be replaced. I picked my car up yesterday and what a difference the clutch is so much better, no more shudder and so much easier starting off at the lights. The engine is much quieter after they replaced the bearings with oversized ones.
I have since learnt that the Thialand built cars have these two problems which makes me a bit hesitant to buy another Honda built in Thialand, has anyone else had these two modifications done to their cars.
lolwut?
didnt u already mention this in ur other thread ("Suspension Problems FD Civic")?
there have been a couple of replies from people about the issue. probably best to have kept this in that same thread...

lol, to answer ur question. no i havn't had any problems what so ever with my fd, although it has only gone 2k/km so i havn't got much to say at all. but not looking forward to be changing engine bearings, mine is an auto so i guess that rules clutch out.

What prompted the dealer to replace the bearings in the engine? Was it something that you can hear from the engine itself and how many other people have had this rectified by the dealers?
Has anyone noticed a pinging noise from their engines at all, especially when using 91 RON (and yes, the manual states 91 RON is the minimum recommended fuel to use). Could this be related at all to the engine bearing noise?

do the bearings cause a buzzing sound around a particular rpm ?

The Service Manager drove the car and heard this slight clunking or knocking noise when the car is stationary and free reving.
I was told by a guy on a US forum that this pertains to cars built in Thialand and also the dealer informed me that they have done the modification to a few cars . So i would say that Honda has put out notice to all dealers and they are aware of the bearing noise but only act if owner complains along with clutch replacement

Is there any indication that the automatic is affected by this engine bearing noise as well?

I don't know which engine bearings were affected and I'm not that mechanically minded, I was told that the 1st and 3rd bearings were replaced with bigger ones. The dealer would tell you if your car needs the modification a short run would indicate this , there's probably a notice put out by the Honda factory alerting dealers to this problem.

my civic fd2 my07 that i picked up on friday has the engine bearing thing. i took it into honda dealer today, they had it checked and are ordering new part for it.
not sure about other peoples sounds, but this is like a high pitch supercharger type wining sound when the engine revs. easy fix and all under warranty so no worrry.
i don't have any clutch trouble on mine that ive noticed, it seems to engage fine and is very easy to drive from standstill or while on highway.
the bearing that is causing this sound is located on the drivers side of the engine, where there is some engine belt hooked up, you can see it if you pop the bonnet up, its not covered.
will report back if the sound is different, may take a video of the car driving so i have a record of the sound.

got my car back today and the difference is awesome. absolute no wining sound now, the engine actually sounds much quieter, almost impossible to hear it idling and not too loud when revving out on the highway.
if you have a high pitch wining sound when you rev the engine, in time to the rev range, i would suggest going to honda as this is the engine bearing, not a new high pitched engine sound that some may first think it is.
