Hey all i own a 99 DC2R with 120,XXX kms on the clock. I have started to have a 3rd gear problem, where if you are just coasting around it will pop out of 3rd from time to time.

It doesnt happen in any other gear, just 3rd, hot and cold.

I was just wondering if this is an inherent problem with these boxes or is it something different like the linkages, as they might be worn? I want to exhaust all other possibilities before i do a rebuild if that is whats required.

Thank you all in advance.

thats not an inherent problem, but the gearbox in our cars are usually abused and not taken care of... change the oil to OEM fluid and see how you go... but i have to say that sounds terminal

Hmm. I just did a major service and replaced all fluids as well just recently. Thanks.

Has the box ever been tempered with? Did your mechanic use genuine honda fluids on the major service?

It has a full logbook history from austral honda in brissy so its been maintained in that respect. I only run genuine oils when i do a service.

Hmmm... would anyone have rebuilt a g/box and know how much a rebuild kit (bearings/seals) for the B18 would be genuine? Thanks all.

Contact JDM concept or JDM yard. They have OEM gearbox parts like syncro's etc, much cheaper than Honda OZ stock them for.

well if u go through honda you wont have change from 2k
for what they charge

but for 3/4 gear sold as a set $400 from traders
honda retail is $620 or so

labour to pull box out

and labour to install gears

so not cheap

Yeah thanks guys, i knew she wasnt going to be a cheap process. Me and the old man can do the labour so it will just be the parts involved and the dicking around in removeing the thing. We shall see how she goes. Cheers.
