Setup 1 or 2 people? And why?

Hey guys I'm putting a pioneer system into my DC5 but I want your opinions on what setup I should pick.

Basically the difference is very average speakers + sub & monoblock **OR** good speakers + good amp.

Setup 1. The Woofer

Pioneer FH-P8000BT Double Din $457
Pioneer TS-G1642R Car Speakers (6" 160 Watt Fronts + Rears) $105

Pioneer TS-W307D4 Subwoofer Boxed (1200 Watt) $227

Total: $1003

Setup 1 missing:

Speaker amp
Tweeters

Setup 2. The Quality Speakers

Pioneer FH-P8000BT Double Din $457
Pioneer TS-A1702C Car Speakers 6.75" 270W (Component Fronts)
http://www.ryda.com.au/Pioneer-TS-A1702C-Car-Speakers-p/tsa1702c.htm
Pioneer TS-D1602R Car Speakers 6.5" 260W (Rears) $230
http://www.ryda.com.au/Pioneer-TS-D1602R-Car-Speakers-p/tsd1602r.htm
Pioneer GM-6300F Amp 4x120W
http://www.pioneer.eu/eur/products/25/29/182/GM-6300F/specs.html

Setup 2 missing:

Subwoofer

Total: $1067

Or if you recommend another setup please post it.

I'm looking for bass + treble clarity, setup 1 will produce plenty of bass of course because of the subwoofer but I'm wondering what kind of bass will I get out of setup 2?

If you check out setup 2's speakers you will see they're of good quality compared to setup 1's entry level speakers.

Any opinions appreciated. ;)

I rather get Focal 165A1 (http://www.focalaustralia.com.au/access_1.html#165a1)for speaker and JL Audio 12W1 (http://www.ryda.com.au/JL-Audio-12W1V24-12-Subwoofer-p/12w1v24.htm)for subwoofer, for Amp if you can get this Focal Solid4 (http://www.focalaustralia.com.au/amplifiers_solid.html#amp3)its much better Amp but you can't buy the Headunit after that unless if you want to put a lil bit extra $ on your budget anyway if you need more information on prices please PM me

Thanks NSX

Seems like good quality speakers however they're abit pricey, my budget sits at around $1200 - but I try to stay well under it - I can't go over it at all.

IMO i'd rather have a sub - the kick frmo a sub is good fun, and average speakers should be good enough for the higher ranges.. I just like having subs though, so i'm a tad baised toward them. (good if you want to show off)

I take it you pick setup 1.

Biased - don't worry so am I, that's why I'm unsure on which way I should go because I had a sub + mono in my previous car and it pumped.

I just don't know how good setup 2 speakers bass will sound. Will it even compare to a sub?

i have only two speakers and a sub in my car, and I much prefer it to four speakers and no sub.

Setup 1, lacks a good pair of splits.
Setup 2, lacks a subwoofer. Also there's no need to spend $200+ on a pair of rears.
IMO I would just take Setup 2, swap the rears for the 307 Sub in a box. They are similar priced and I would take a sub any day over 2 expensive coaxial speakers for bass. Just bridge your amp's Channel 3+4 for the sub/ Then the setup should produce better sound then either of your listed setup.

Go to your local JB and I believe you should be able to get a better pricing then you compiled. Also don't forget to factor in $70-100 for a 4 channel amp wiring kit as well. .....and if you happen to have money left over, doesn't hurt to get some sound deadening for those DC5 doors. ;)

Hope this helps :)

why dont you consider this setup...

HU - $457
front splits - focal 165A1 $329 (AUS)

leave stock rears + run them off your HU (trust me, that'll all you'll need for rears)

4 ch amp, one you can bridge ch 3/4 for sub like alpine mrv 345 or the bigger 545. not sure if you can still find them, but if you can..they're perfect for your application

sub (if you are considering system 2 with out a sub, why dont you go for a 10in sub. It'll cost you less and should provide more than enough everyday bass for your car) -
JL Audio 10W1V24 10" Subwoofer $192 for ryda

like aka_nsx said try to get splits from dedicated speaker manufactures..they may cost you a bit more initially but they're well worth it.

the website states rrp. you can usually knock 10% off from audio retailers, possible more.

yea. they've good sq. i think jb have them in box+sub package...worth looking into it.
of course they are better subs out there but they cost $$$ too.
in your case i think it would be a good choice over the pioneer sub.

Head unit: Pioneer FH-P8000BT Double Din $457
front speaker+split: Clarion SRP1620M 6" Split System $175.95
10" sub: Clarion SRW1051 10" Subwoofer $89.95
10" box in audio shop, less than $50
4 channel amp, 1/2 for front speakers, 3/4 brideged for sub: Clarion APX4361 4 Channel Car Amplifier $300

All kits ready price: $1072.9
__________________________________________________ ________________
Amp wiring kit + fuses: $100 (would be cheaper if you find in your local store)
Installation: $350

Total cost when you can enjoy the melody, $1522.90 (hiden cost would be much higher but if you can install by yourself, you save a lot)

btw, you can try other double din headunit and lower the cost because the price is bit too high for pioneer. But if you like the style, oh well..

Thanks Tw-38 that setup sounds alright, may have to ask jb hifi for a demo with the clarions. But I'm guessing you mean 1/4 for fronts and 3/4 for the sub.

keniirox I didn't want to put in the 6x9's because they'd have to cut into the rear tray or if I wanted a proper fibreglass install the $$$ will rock up so I thought I'd just replace the 6" ones.

gach2 - yeh mate i've actually been to the store for a demo of a few setups however they didn't have all the parts I've listed available (particularly the speakers). Most of the stores have the amp and sub ready for a listen.

After listening to a few subs I've found out the kicker subs are probably the best value for money so we might mix n match a few things.

aye mate i got a dc5r and remember that with the aftermarket splits at the front you are going to need to get spacers made up or make them yourself which will be also extra $$$$ as the other guy stated theres really no need to spend big let alone anything on the rear speakers.

i picked up a old response amp for abt $150 4channel and a $90 kenwood sub
plus i was only running 2 4"speakers

they went pretty hard , and wiring cost abt 100bux +

so how'd you go?
im looking into something like this for my dc5 too and in the same dilemma. lol

Just as a reference i would def go for clarity over bass anyday. I have a full stereo in my car but the bass is not that overpowering and its very clear. I listen to only metal so i want a bit of punch as well so a larger sub is not good either.

Just a quick price ref:
Head unit - clarion $450
Speakers front - alpine type r components $350
Speakers rear - alpine type r coaxials $230
JBL 6 channel amp - $600
Sub - alpine type s $170

Plus ive redone all the wiring and dynamatted the doors. Youll have to add say 100 - 200 for bits and peices as well. wiring, rcas, fuses, dist blocks etc.

So say for around 1500 to 1800 you can get a really really nice system, that goes hard and sounds great. PS its very loud too. Mine cost a bit more than that overall but you could get away with it a bit cheaper should you leave a few things off and choose different system components.

1. Forget the rear speakers, if anything they will reduce your clarity.
2. Use the highest quality speakers in the front as you can possibly afford.
3. To save money you should use a 4 channel amp to power the front speakers then bridge the rear channels and use that to power the subwoofer.
4. Use appropriate sound deadening in the doors to dramatically increase clarity and punch.

If you are looking at sound quality, kicker subwoofers probably are not your best option. All of their subs in factory boxes are ported. This will give you a deep and loud bass but a sealed box would give a better overall bass response.

Pioneer speakers aren't the best either :P

Keep in mind that this is coming from a person who's installing $560 Crescendo speakers in his front doors.

I'm not saying your setup isn't going to sound good, I just think specialty gear will give much better performance.

well I got fady and the boys to do the install from jb hifi at parra (mind you they really took care of the car).

I ended up getting:

Headunit: Pioneer FH-P8000BT double din
Fronts: Kicker 6.5" splits
Rears: Kicker 6.5" (D series)
Amp: 4 channel kicker
Sub: 12" Kicker woofer (forget model number)
Mono Block: Kicker (forget model number)

Sounds really nice, all up and installed for a tidy $1500.
