hey guys..

just wanted to see if any one else has noticed this...

bought a dc2r, it came with mugen thermostat, radiator cap and fan switch.....
all good... but it runs just slightly hotter than it would out of the factory??
not dangerously hot.... the temp guage just sits a little higher...??

is this normal for these mods.. or something else???

cheers...

try an oem radiator cap

hmm, thats funny cuz i got the exact same mods and mine runs a little colder... like 20% when it should be 41% (normal).... i'm tipping it could be the thermostat if this has cause u problems as well... correct me if i'm wrong

how high is high?

hard to say... but like the guage sits a tiny bit below the half-way mark..

Sounds fine to me.
Mine sits just below half when warm.

I dont know what your mates car is or has etc..
But on an ITR, if ur temp metre sits a bit off halfway on the cold side, its normal.

fair enough.... cheers for help guys....

and when the colder months are here and you are doing highway driving don't expect it to go anywhere near halfway as well

Maybe your mate's VTIR has a partially stuck thermostate. :p

haha.. nah hes a honda mechanic he would have realised by now...

nah but.. guage does sit pretty well on half way ... starting to think it might be the fan switch kicking in later.... or the thermostat... but i am 100% that it is sitting higher than stock....

Should be slightly below half way. Mugen thermostat, thermoswitch and radiator cap, should make it cooler. If there is an aftermarket aluminium radiator - then in traffic you will see higher than stock temps.

Are you boiling the coolant at all? If you are worried, get a Defi (or other) water temp guage. Is your radiator filled up, with the reservoir tank filled?

I don't think the stock gauge is exactly accurate either.

yep all fluids are topped up and OEM.....

and yes i would of thought the thermo mods' would of made it run cooler not hotter... unless they only work properly under track conditions....?

Agreed!

Only other thing that I can think of, is using a higher ratio of coolant to water. A slightly Higher conc of coolant generally brings down temperatures slightly.

really? i always though coolant is only in added for its anti corrosive, anti freeze properties and straight water would make the car run cooler.
please correct me if i'm wrong

i agree.... water would and does work, i think the cooling properties are pretty much the same, coolant raises the boiling point of water..... otherwise it would all steam away..

Coolant is a larger molecule than water, and it takes more heat energy to heat it up. Therefore a higher conc of coolant, will take longer for it to heat up. Only slightly... probs not even noticable.

mmmm. ,mabey.... i think your thinking to much into it tho...the main reason you need coolant over just water is that coolant has a higher boiling point and it wont corrode you engine....

if it takes longer to heat up, it stands to reason that it will take longer to cool down, meaning that it'll be dispersing less heat. I doubt it's noticeable aswell.

fwiw, back on topic, I really wouldn't be concerned where the needle is sitting on or below half way and doesn't move then all is well. if it moves up or down once all is up to temp you have a problem.
