View Full Version : Head gasket
Head gasket broke, what do you recommend the best thing to do is? Honda North quotes me 5,500 AUS dollars for a full repair of head gasket and valves and rockers. A tad pricey for a 1992 4WS Prelude H23A1.
Please Australian replies only.

You can do 1 of 2 things, Pour that head gasket repair Sheit into your radiator which will be a mad bandaid solution for about 500k's or 2 go to any local garage, give them $1000 cash and theyll do it for you no dramas, maybe not even $1000 maybe $800!

5.5k? plz tell me your joking.
U can pick up the WHOLE car on ebay for about 4k
Well the 5.5k was a full cylinder head replacement including reconditioning the head gasket, re-holing the valves etc. And yes Honda North is a dealer.
BUT what I have done is found a new VTEC motor and am doing a complete swap. VTEC motor done 80,000km's so pretty good find for the age.

why would you wanna replace the full head if its just the head gasket ??
my timing belt snapped on my 3rd gen lude and didnt need to replace it, and thats alot worse then a blow head gasket.

Because I want the VTEC and have the money to put it in?! Plus I'm replacing the 185,000 KM H23A1 with a 86,000 KM H22 with titanium and carbon tuned cold air chambered air intake system by greddy, yummy!

Well if that's your plan then you need to rethink your budget, as $5.5k won't be enough. Everything that touches the timing belt needs to be changed, as well as the injectors, ecu and while I'm not certain, I think the inlet manifold and exhaust header will also need changing to make that work.
It's not that drastic.
Belts changing etc, ecu, wiring, no manifold though. Costing me about 6 grand
