Just thought I would let you know that I have now run my extensively modified 1994 EG 6 in the first 2 rounds of the 2009 Victorian Club Autocross Series and so far the results have been pretty satisfactory. In the first round at Deniliquin (NSW) I managed to win my class by just 2 tenths all up after 4 runs each totalling about 2 and a half minutes a run.(Best 3 are added together) I was 14th outright and ran as high as 7th outright in one run. (I am running in the up to 1600 cc modified class)
Last weekend round 2 of the series was held at Kyneton in Victoria (great for me as I live in Ballarat about an hour away whereas Deniliquin was half a day and an overnight stay away LOL ). I won my class again and got as high as 7th outright on 1 run in a field of around 65 cars. (Finished 12 outright overall) I am pretty certain I will make the top 10 on some tracks as after only 2 events I am still learning the car (although obviously beating the fourwheel drives and specials is not usually a realistic proposition). In both events I narrowly beat Eli Evans for the class win ( he won a round of the Australian Rally Championship last year and was coming 2nd o/r this year until he destroyed his STI in Canberra). He is a nice modest sort of a guy and is driving a pretty basic Ford Laser that I have to admit should not be as close to my times as it is. He says there is a target in the middle of my back which I guess means he plans to develop the car so he can beat me. :(
The Civic has been a real revelation for me. I just love the way the V tech kicks in and how quickly the car gets to the redline. You do need to understand what it is doing on loose surfaces particularly with the Kaaz LSD and need appropriate left foot braking to get the thing to turn in consistently and the torque steer is always present . Overall though the car is generating plenty of grip and good mid corner speed which is what it is all about.
Sorry about the long post but I just thought I would tell you what a great package the EG6 is. (although I suppose most of you already knew that):D

I will try and post some when I can .(Not sure how to. LOL ) Sometimes people put footage of our events on youtube (my Suzuki Swift GTI was included in footage of a round last year ) so hopefully the EG6 will pop up sometime.I do have a video camera but have yet to install it in the car.

Does anyone know why the photos are so undersized with no detail ? :confused:First time we have uploaded photos and these are pretty useless.I figure we need to load them individually to get good resolution. Bear with me as we fumble through this.:o

My wife and I have spent an argumentative hour sorting this.
Hope it works.

Autocross or Rally? Looks like the latter man! or did you mean Khanacross?

Engine bay needs a wash! LOL...

Australian Autocross. Not the woosie American "between the cones on bitumen in a carpark" type of autocross. LOL. Our events are on a range of loose surface CAMS approved permanent tracks . Some are ultra smooth and will get your tyres squealing as the rubber is laid down during the event .( If you have rubber that is too hard:thumbdwn:) while other tracks are rutted to such an extent that you have to be careful as you float the car into a corner that it does not trip over:o Broken driveshafts are also not uncommon on the more corrugated tracks:(
Yes the engine bay is dirty and so is the interior . I only did round two last weekend and then parked the car in my carport after hosing the mud off from the underside before it set LOL.The last event was plagued by floods (well heavy rain in the morning) and so much dust in the afternoon that they had the dreaded water truck out ! If you look closely at the photos you will see that the car has water beads on it because I washed it just before I got the camera out . The engine bay does not get cleaned (ever ! ) with water as I have learned the hard way that aftermarket ECU wiring and excessive water are not a good combination . All I do is wipe the motor with a rag and blow excess dust off with compressed air

Yeah thanks .:o:o It isn't Bathurst you know but hey I can handle the odd complement:p I really do not think I am driving the car that well yet and I feel it should be a top 10 finisher at some tracks.I can honestly say I have not had one lap yet that would be even close to "perfect". It does give you a huge advantage when you have a better power to weight ratio than most others .What it means is that your 0 to 100 kmh time can be 1 or 2 seconds faster than your opposition and if you can gain that much in the sprint to the first corner it is pretty hard for the opposition to get it back in a 65 second lap. What I do know is that I am not going to win my class every round as I will make the odd mistake or some local home track hot shot will blow me to the weeds LOL. But hey I am 59 years of age ,still reasonably competitive at the level I run at and still having the time of my life win or lose.:)

Firstly let me say that I don't intend to bore everyone with a blow by blow report of each event I do in the EG6. However since I was pretty happy to mention my class wins in the first two rounds of the series I compete in I guess that in the interests of balance I should report on the Victorian Club Autocross round I completed yesterday at Bendigo. I had a s**t of a day.The track was very slippery and rough and I had trouble working out which end of the car was going to break loose at any moment. Throw in the fact that the thing jumped out of second gear once on each of the second and third runs and three times on the final run and you can see why I was relieved to put it on the trailer at the end of the day. I did manage to fluke 3rd in class and I think this means I am still leading by one humble point after 3 rounds. I was about 26 O/R in the 85 car field which is well below what the car is capable of. (not sure about the driver's capabilities at the moment LOL ) I had the gearbox out at the start of the year and it looks as if it will be coming out again. More expense.....

It's all good

I get a kick out of seeing Civic's built for circuit racing

Yours is obviously seeing some great action judging by the cage and rally mud flaps

I had to Google "Compton "and "ghetto" to see what you meant. LOL I have been to LA and there were areas I would not drive into as I figured you would probably lose more than your hub caps before you got to the other side! I looked up your car details before I posted my first reply. Looks like it was a well prepared setup.

Hi Beeza. The car is currently in a workshop undergoing some work on the transmission.:thumbdwn: It suddenly decided to jump out of second gear during my last event.I had hoped it was just an engine or transmission mount failure but it seems as if 7500 rpm on a very rough track using rally tyres and a tight Kaaz LSD was too much for the transmission. I have had to quickly sort out my semi retired Mk 1 Swift GTI for my next event.

Just thought I would let you all know that I did my little bit for the Honda brand by winning the 2009 Victorian Club Autocross Series up to 1600 modified class. :) I managed two firsts, two seconds, four thirds and two sixths (one of the sixths was in my Swift GTI after I broke the Honda transmission) and with just the eleventh round to go at Shepparton I cannot be beaten. (We drop our worst two results for the year before the points are tallied). I am pretty happy with the result although there was a few times I got beaten by current Australian Rally Champion Simon Evans and his just as quick brother Eli in obviously inferior cars. (brings you back to earth a bit...gulp:o). All in all though if someone had asked me when I was 18 years old and starting out in motorsport if I thought I would still be reasonably competitive some 42 years later (I recently turned 60:eek:) I don't think I would have answered yes LOL. It was a very enjoyable year travelling all over Victoria and even interstate to attend events with a great bunch of drivers . I plan to do it all again next year.;)

Hey Steve, congratulations on a fine effort. Especially considering your age (no criticism intended there), as I know how hard it can be preparing a car, getting to events, driving, and getting it all back home in one piece. I'm not quite 60 (a couple of years left yet); it can really tax your stamina and health, not to mention the hip-pocket. Again, an impressive effort and well done.

Thanks Peter
I checked your age before responding and I can understand why you made the point about it getting a bit more difficult as you get older LOL. I think the hardest part is maintaining your confidence level. If you make a mistake you immediately wonder if you might have committed the same error 30 years ago and a lack of confidence in motorsport is not a good thing...:o
