Hi guys,
As mentioned on the title; Is it true that DC5R(or DC2R) have a high theft rating?? What parts usually get stolen? Other than insurance what other things can be done to prevent this?
Thanks

I haven't heard of that many cases of stolen DC2R/5Rs in Melbourne, I've read about a heap of them in Sydney though.
A good quality alarm and immobilizer is necessary. Use a club-lock, depending on where you park.
And just be smart with where you park and it should be all good.

Yes,the main problem is the Recaro's.
I doubt very much you can make them stealth so either take the risk + alarm's/pager's etc etc OR remove them, simple.

you can put liquid nails in the recaro bolts

Good alarm helps I suppose. If someone wants to steal your car... then they'll do it. You just have to delay them for as long as possible.
Seat covers on the recaros, to hide the recaros - possible won't attract theives.

i have to disagree for putting Westmead at no.5. i've seen supras, bmws, volkswagens, teggys park along the streets but they never get touched.

Research results from RTA + AAMI insurance.

Those stats are rubbish... true, but rubbish! Ofcourse, there are going to be a high theft rate of those cars - they are everywhere. If you consider 220 DC5R's being stolen, that's like near 50% of them in Australia. Just because our cars don't make the stats, it doesn't mean anything.
Those stats are not percentage per certain type of car... but they are considering every single make and model registered with the RTA.

seat covers, debadge the car, alarm/immobilizer, club lock (adds seconds to possible theft time), kill switches, removable ecu units (ppl in the US do it that way now), removable steering wheel boss (I would but I need an air bag by law, lol)
there's alot of ways to deter theft, just have to get clever
I have a mate with a vintage hemi who always has the right amount of fuel in it that it can only physically drive 40kms on a tank, lol

ive got a mate who was looking at buying a dc5r with no seats, steering wheel, or wheels for like 15K - obviously been stripped of the goods and dumped somewhere...
pretty sure i also have to pay a higher excess if my car is stolen, due to the high risk...
