We have two cars:
1975 Civic with later model 1600 Accord motor in - runs great, beaut body, BUT suspension & steering real dodgy;
& a 1980 Civic 1300, missing the head from the moter, body good.
Question: is any of the running gear from the '80 able to swap to the older car (they do look very different)
OR what are the best options to upgrade the shocks/struts/springs for the older car?
We are trying to do this on a student's budget.
Answer either on the forum or at jwgbaker@optusnet.com.au

Mate, they do fit. However stuff like engine mounts will need to be fabricated and driveshafts need fabricating too. Neither which are expensive. I had an EB2 and then an EB3. Great cars, that handle unreal when set up right. Not sure where about's you are, but any suspension place can help you out. Sure nobody has coilovers for them, but with a good set of shocks and some decent springs and good tires, you'd be suprised how good they handle. My mate EB1 with the accord 1600 wasn't quicker than my worked 1300.

Deff worth jumping on 1stgencivic.com There is heaps of info there with regards to conversions etc.

Heaps of guys have been doing 4x100 conversions on them, apparently the rear is almost bolt on, but the fronts you need to play around with a fair bit.

I am currently looking into getting some coils for my 1st gen...not a cheap option but i know it will make the handeling unreal once I have them in!

What does "4 x 100 conversion" mean?

converting the wheel hubs to a 4x100 stud pattern (4 studs, 100mm apart), presumably off another civic.

So folks two questions:
Why would you do the conversion to 4x100 stud pattern, and
the big one:
What stuff off the 1980 model WILL transfer to the 1975 model?
I ask this question because a bloke at a local Jap wreckers told me that the two models were fully discrete and that NOTHING was common between the two models - and he was a self-proclaimed expert!

You'd do a 4x100 conversion so finding nice rims aren't such a bitch.
