Hi guys,
I have a Honda Civic 2001 5SPD MAN 5DOOR VI Version (uncommon civics)
My front brake pads were due last weekend, I had the choice of either 3 options;
My mechanic (dunno if he's a rip off or not) quoted me;
1. $75 for after market 'crap' brake pads
2. $110 for after market decent brake pads they were a popular brand name one
3. $185 for genuine Honda brake pads
He told me if i had the $$ go Genuine as they will last longer, Knowing me I get lazy and who wants to spend their weekends in the mechanics shop??
So I decided with the Genuine ones.
Once he took my wheels off, we saw that my disc pads have been grinded down and they were showing bumps, he then recommended I should get them Machined to smooth them out again so the new brake pads would have better friction. - this cost an extra $40 on top.
All up I ended up paying $225 for remove/replace new Brake Pads and Machining them.
Don't get me wrong, the brakes are superb! no more squeeks (thank god) and they have much better stopping power then previously. I am glad I went with the genuine brake pads but, do you guys think it was nessasary??
I've always gone with the idea that - You get what you pay for.
Take care of your car and It will take care of you
