Hey Guys,
Just got my new 1993 Honda Civic Eg and Ive asked everyone of my mates this exact question and nobody knows so hoping I can get a decent response off the people off here. :)

When I bought the Honda I noticed a small teardrop shaped device on the right hand side of my stearing wheel next to my dash light adjustment switch.

It has the Mugen racing symbol on it and a little light that changes from red to green when the button is pushed.....
Its connected to the relay switch which looks like it leads into the wiring loom.
I have no idea what it is and hoping yous can give me a hand.

Heres the pictures so yous know what it looks like.

its the NOS! or maybe the car had a mad overheating problem and it was a fan switch to turn the fan on when the car overheated, could be anything but bro!

it could be a VTEC button... instead of the vtec solenoid you can over ride it with this...

its probably fake mugen rice that turns on some led's some where on the car....... or it could be an over boost button that makes everything around you blury when you press it lol

Wouldn't surprise me at all.
If it is just a useless button do you think I could use it as a switch? neon's or boost control light?

Pushed it when the cars stationary and pushed it when driving... nothing changed

I guess just turn your car on - pop the bonnet and see if anything happens when you press it D:.

It makes a funny clicking noise in the front of my car.

How would I know?

Yes Guys I'm new to having a Honda.
I know nothing really about it.
Anyone know anywhere where would be best to take the car to get it looked at?

those buttons, i've seen are usually connected to some sort of rice equipment, lights, neons, dash lights, etc

as for vtec, list exactly what model car you have. u may or may not have vtec.

Could it be my fog lights that dont seem to wanna work?

SiReal
31-03-2009, 02:22 PM
From memory, 91 - 93 was GL and Si (Non vtec for both)
94-95 Gli and Vti (vtec)

We can rule out the vtec button.

I can also 'guestimate' that the Mugen decal was probably taken from a car model kit and stuck on the switch. How do I know? I used to stick them everywhere when I used to make hobby cars.

At the end of the day, no one will be able to help you without inspecting the wires and where they run to. You will have to do that yourself. good luck

if there are no other fog light switches i think its safe to say its supposed to be for them,
obviously assumably uve tried, perhaps its not connected to the lights properly
those arnt oem lights, thats not an oem switch,
makes sense for it to be connected?

Check the bulbs or wiring. If it's making a clicking noise like you said then it sounds like it's trying to work but the bulbs are blown

Thankyou for thinking outside the square

If this was a genuine mugen item ,then you could find a schematic on the net somewhere and then so find out exactly how it works and what not....answering this query.

sometimes you need to think inside the box

the car has fog lights they don't work (if they did and the OP knew this they wouldn't have gone along with the fog light sugestion) and this is the only button that the OP can't work out what it's for

bennjamin
31-03-2009, 06:50 PM
Yeah we can all guess its related to the foglights.

For the benefit of the OP - google search doesnt show anything yet. Anyone on Japanese yahoo auctions for such an item?

ek4-guy
31-03-2009, 06:59 PM
however if you search Sij driving lights as previously mentioned

Done the searches, read the books, asked the friends.
This was my last resort - Ask the Honda Enthusiasts

let me reiterate - i meant if it was deemed a real mugen item or a copy one :)

Whats the difference....
If it was a real mugen or a copy, would it change my answer?
I just wanna know what it does so i can either use it for something else if its deemed useless or fix it if it actually controls something....

read above. Anyway its deemed not mugen and that brand. So now you know the brand that can help with your issue. How ? You can email that particular company with this exact issue and where you might stand. IE if you can fix it or if any other parts are needed etc.

it's definatly your fog lights

i think everyone is on the right track except for those who think its the transformer button :p

since its connected to a relay switch and wiring loom it deff has to be wired to your foggies. since the fogs dont work im guess the wiring was a DIY that went wrong. check if the wires are tapped into your accessories for starters. if thats the case they are surly running your foggies thats my guess.

foggie bulbs probly blown or the fuse or relay is blown

either or its definatly most likely transporter style number plate rotisary....

if there is a clicking sound, i think the foggy relay is working, but the fuse/supply to the lights is broken, check for a small plastic box a bit smaller than a packet of matches, if you hold it while someone hits the switch off and on, you will feel it working, then play follow-the-wiring :)

that was done on cannonball run ages ago!! :p it was roger moores aston martin that had it... what a great movie that was lol better than transporter thats for sure..

OP your best bet is either check were the wire goes from the switch or a cheating way is if both the switch and spotties were done at the same time (therefor it was for spotties) it will more than likely use the same type/colour/brand of wiring, if it was a DIY or a job done on the cheap
