Ok i assume we all know our block codes but i came across a new one recently.
Stamped on the block is just: B18

no 4th letter and no number.
I assume this is a JDM Type R engine ?

hey! come to think of it!!!!!!!!

it *might* be a 'bare block' from Honda.

ie a B18 bare block, without crank, bought from Honda SPare Parts.

that way - it could be either a A B or a C???

makes sense ;)

isnt there a number just above the exhaust ports that also tells u what type of block u have?? eg. p08, a6 (i think)

P72 i think it says somewhere.

I know its got forged pistons and a knife edged crank etc.

nah, not always accurate

how do you know if the block was originally with that head?

so if it has a P72 head - it is a VtiR/GSR head.

and it seems like the block is a bare B18 block bought as a block from Honda to be rebuilt...

ok ive had some more expert opinionz.
Apparantly its a bare block from Honda with no internals - supplied as a B18 only. This is the only believable scenario considering all the block internals are not stock and it has been specifically built for a 1.8lt class of the asian JGTC300 series.
Hence forged pistons, knife edged crank, modified oil sump etc ..

So thumbs up to the guy who thought of that :)

lol !
good thing i said "Apparantly" !
turns out my sources are incorrect.

This engine is a JDM B18c that was restamped B18 to overcome the strict Chinese engine laws. It was restamped to make it race legal to be used in Macau and coverup the history of the engine.

This has been approved by the purchaser of this engine befor i purchased it off the last user. O and it does have all the fruit :D

panda, u are correct and it was stamped B18c. It was then flatened out and restamped B18.

jap engines have no # after the C
if it is a SiR engine it will have dual intake manfiold
if it is a type R it will have a single intake

um, if that is a picture of your engine number - that is not a B18C1

it is a B18C

i really dont understand how you could think that that is a B18C1

Civic Type R

all JDM engines have no number after the C.
JDM VTiR = SiR and Type R are all B18C on the block. As Tangy said, the noticable difference in with the intake runners and the Type R has Spec R on the blue Vin tag.
O .. and the stock Type R has a red valve cover too.
