thinking of getting this setup for my 1997 EK1..

i could get a b16 complete package from an EG6. then get a b20 block from a 2000 crv.

some questions though..

1. since the engine head is older than the chassis, would that matter? to my understanding, if the head is combined with the block it would be legit because engine number is written on the block?..

2. do i need an obd1/obd2 conversion harness or something? what obd is my ek? how do i know if i need a conversion harness?

3. can i use the stock ecu that comes with the b16a package in this setup? does the car need be tuned after engine is installed?

4. is it a good idea to do a head service before the engine gets installed?

5. what other things do i need to look out for?? I just want the conversion to be as hassle free as possible before i commit and I want everything to fall into the right place.

6. if you know any reputable workshops in sydney or people who are competent, can you please refer them to me?

Thanks in anticipation!

speak to benson fatboyz or jdm type r. They will advise you very well. Since they have gone through these setups plenty of times before.

1. Yes

2. Depends on what ecu your using

3. No it is not advisable to use B16A ecu for B20VTEC. Yes you will need a tune with a tuneable ecu.

4. Yes, its always better to be safe then sorry.

5. You will need a lot more other stuff for B20VTEC.

1. since the engine head is older than the chassis, would that matter? to my understanding, if the head is combined with the block it would be legit because engine number is written on the block? If you get the B20B8 block you should be fine. There 99-00 CRV blocks.

2. do i need an obd1/obd2 conversion harness or something? what obd is my ek? how do i know if i need a conversion harness? If your running a OBD1 ECU then you'll need a OBD2> OBD1 conversion harness.

3. can i use the stock ecu that comes with the b16a package in this setup? does the car need be tuned after engine is installed? It'll start and run. Can be driven around on it but wouldnt advise.

4. is it a good idea to do a head service before the engine gets installed? Always a good idea to get it serviced. Totally up the the owner.

5. what other things do i need to look out for?? I just want the conversion to be as hassle free as possible before i commit and I want everything to fall into the right place. Make sure the covnersion is complete to save you headaches of searching for parts. Being EK you'll need to find Ek4 engine loom, Ek4 rear L bracket. Search for some B20 build threads.

6. if you know any reputable workshops in sydney or people who are competent, can you please refer them to me? Search.

2. The EK1 D16Y4 using completely different pinouts/plugs to the traditional OBD2a/b harnesses. more wiring is also required. Y4 only has 2 outputs for injectors, where as OBD1/2 uses 4 outputs. the dizzy is also a problem, something about additional sensors in the Y4 dizzy, i believe the y4 dizzy uses igntion pulse, whereas OBD1/2 uses crank angle sensors. may be other bits i have missed out aswell...

here are the pinouts http://www.turbod16.com/viewtopic.php?t=8133

Since your thinking of engine conversion, why not use the wiring harness from the CRV, will save you alot of headache.
