how do i find out how wide my tyres are?

hey guys i got some wheels on ebay that im trying to sell and some one just asked how how wide the wheels are.. i no there 19" they say on the tyre 215 35 zr19.. how much is that in inches?

ok so in inches how wide is it? 215/2.5 is 8.5 but there not 8.5 wide...

They are as wide as they are. The numbers on the side aren't strict. Besides, mount the same tyre on two different width rims and you'll get different width tyres.

cant work off tyres, they may be stretched on the rim or so on...
check the back of the wheels, it should be stamped/engraved on the back of one of the spokes. check all 4 as the wheels may be staggered.

215 is the width of the tyre
35 is the height of the tyre

215 is the nominal section width of the tyre expressed in millimetres (i.e. 215mm). 'Section' means that it's the width of the widest part of the tyre from sidewall to sidewall, not the tread width (no part of the size designation refers to actual tread width, which can vary quite a lot between different tyres of the same nominal size). It's 'nominal' because actual section width will vary depending on the rim width to which the tyre is fitted, more with a wider rim etc.

35 is the profile ratio of the sidewall, i.e. a 35 ratio tyre has a sidewall height that is 35% of the section width.

19 is the diameter of the wheel (in inches), not rim width.

For some bizarre historical reason wheels are sized in imperial measurements but tyres are sized in a combination of imperial and metric, in the same tyre. If your buyer is asking for wheel width then telling him the tyre section width won't answer his question.

Wheel width suitable for a 215/35/19 tyre will be between 7" and 8.5", and will be stamped or cast (or forged with a very good wheel) into the wheel somewhere.

You should / might also find another number marked on the wheel that wil be something like 35, or 50, or 55 etc etc. This will be the wheel offset, and your buyer really should want to know this as well.

it should state some of the wheel specs.. like shown in the picture below

The wheel width number marked on the wheel will have a 'J' after it, or sometimes 'JJ', e.g. the wheel in the photo above is marked '7 1/2J' so the rim is 7.5" wide.

I have no idea what the 'J' might mean...

You will see either 6.5, 7 or 7.5 on the inside of the wheel.
It shouldnt be any more than that otherwise you'd have wider tyres.
