Hey Guys

After driving round a bit with my newly installed B16A2 the power steering started to make a funny nose.

After checking it out I found the hose on the bottom of the res was leaking so I cut off the crap bit and reattached the hose and filled up the res again.

Now the oil just keeps foaming up and coming out.

Anyone know why this is happening and how to stop/fix it?

Thanks

The steer pump has just got air in it and cavitated - creating the air-bubbles. Nothing serious if it hasn't been left cavitating with low fluid level it for a long time.

Let it sit for a while (til the bubbles stop), then top up the fluid level (if needed).

Run the engine and turn the steering wheel lock-to-lock slowly 3 times (making sure not to 'hang off' the wheel whilst on full-lock - just turn to lock then back the other way).
Stop the engine and re-check and top up the fluid level if needed.
*Repeat this procedure once more.

The bubbles/foaming should stop by now.

Recheck for leaks, check PWR Steer pump drive belt condition and check fluid level and correct if necessary after your next drive.

Let us know how you go! ;)

as above is perfect, u just need to bleed the line..

just throwing it out there. but did u get the right type of pipe when replacing?? not heater hose!! i made that mistake which could have proven fatal if i had left it on..

Na used the same hose just chopped off the crap bit

Turned out the problem is I mixed Honda and non Honda oil :thumbdwn:

They don't mix hence they keeps foaming and won't stop

I need to bleed the whole system tonight then put all Honda oil back in

Who told you that? I doubt the fluids mixing would cause that much of an issue.

These 'symptoms' are caused by pump cavitation or air/fluid being 'beaten up' in the steering pump. Once the system has expelled all of the air and settled the foaming stops.

I'd highly doubt the mixed fluids would have this effect.

The reason you shouldn't mix fluids is due to different properties in different brands of fluid, possibly reacting with each other. If a system is designed to use a certain fluid then only that type of fluid should be used.

Well we bled the system completely and put all OEM without any luck! some problem.

There must be a air leak somewhere but I can't find it dam it :thumbdwn:

Check all the hoses for possible split under the hose clamps. We had the same problem and only found it when checking all of these.

Of all the fluids in your Honda, only ever use genuine Honda Power Steering fluid. It's not expensive and you know you are doing it right!

how long was it making the wierd sound for? if it was making the wierd sound long enough it could mean the pump has fkd bearings. when you put the fluid in does it still make the sound?

or is it only bubbling?

Sound just stared plus it stopped after bleeding and putting the oil back in for a bit...

Started again once the bubbling started again..

Booked in at Hannys on Sat

Let us know how you go mate.

I'd put money on pump seals or an air leak on the low pressure feed hose to the steer pump.

man I hope its not the pump seals

That sounds costly

Stuff it

Racks coming off :)

It'd be a worst case scenario for the pump to be knackered dude.

With any luck it's just a hose.
