Replacing brushes on ED Civic alternator

After almost 18 years of service the brush set has finally showed signs of giving out today with the battery light burning bright untill we went over a rough road for 1 or 2 k's and the problem went away. What and how is it like to replace :confused: Looking at where the alternator is placed I'm thinking of putting the car on ramps and going from underneath ?
