Ok quick explaination.

Engine's use cams to open valves which let air/fuel in.
Using a large duration cam with big lift makes more power at high rpm but has the problem of less power in the lower rpm.

Having vtec enables the use of 2 cam profiles which means you can have a small cam for lowend power+ big cam for highend power.

In the end it means you can have a big cam without the boggyness of it.
