Hey, ive recently bought a dc2 vtir
im jus wondering, ive put a pod filter on..and taken off the stock air box but i cant seem to get the bottom part of the stock piping off, as in the part the leads under the front bumper. are there screws or do i just fiddle with it it?
Also, am i better off gettin a 'whale's penis' intake or a pod that sits down under the front park lights.
I drive regularly in rain and am not that cautious of puddles lol
let me know what u's reckon..

to take the "bottom part stock piping" its called a resonator, you need to take the front bar off. then just remove the bolts that hold it in place.
as for your intake choice, you wont feel much difference from aftermarket intake compared to stock intake. only noticeable diff is louder intake noise. i suggest you use stock intake piping with air box (but remove resonator). also you wont get hassled by cops

hey mate,
firstly, the type of intake ur talking about that sits behind the parkers is called a Cold Air Intake (CAI). personally i've got an Injen CAI on my DC2 VTi-R with a hydro-shield around the pod so there's no need to worry about water unless ur car is actually submerged in in. felt no gains low-end but mid to high, the gains are felt. gains thru an intake are minimal unless u go all out and get urself a mugen air box. proven substantial gains over stock! :)

This is why you cannot just pull out that pipe.

The best way I think is to remove the bumper and then unbolt the huge resonator box pictured above.
Then after that here's what I did, post #9:

u dont need to remove no bumper, just unclip the guards, the resinator has 3 bolts i think, use a ratchet and they come of easy as, a cold air intake which is the 1 that sits at he bottom, is the best option i beleive, i used to have a vtir and if ur interested i got a cold air intake of my old vtir for sale, pm me if ur interested

you might need to remove the splash guards in the wheel arches as well. I found it a bit difficult to get to the top bolt without partially removing this guard. I also locked the wheels to the left so i could get in there. NB: i have a fat arm though lol.
BTW.. if you're going to use a hydroshield on an injen you may as well have just left it stock. it's going to be more of a hinderance than anything.

yeah got em out without bumper removal... undoing splashguards a must though....
if your crafty and have the right tools you'll get that one hard to reach bolt
