hey just letting you know what sound system i have, hifonics amp 1608d 1600watts rms and a 15" hifonics sub 1600rms 3200watt peak, jbl 4 gauge wiring kit.

i recently took the sub and amp out for a week, i went to put it all back in now the amp is running (turning on) but is running in protcted mode then starts to smoke a bit so i quickly turn it off.

the problem is that it only when the rca's are not it the amp, the amp runs on protected mode, but wen i put the rca's into the head unit and the amp (into the output of the amp) it runs normally and doesnt smoke up.
BUT when the rca's are in the Input of the amp it runs in protected mode and the sub still doesnt work grrrr
ive tested the rca's and they are fine.

anyone know what is the issue???

soooo anoying

it sounds as if there may be a dry joint on the preamp stage of the amp you will need to send it back to the manifacturer to go over it hopefully its still within warranty or you are up for a fair bit unfortunately

wat deck u got, pioneer? smoke automatically indicates a problem, check the amp ground wire, if it is not connected properly when you come to connect the rca's it will try pull a large amount of current through the tiny wires and the amps and decks preamp out/in circuitry and cause issues.

Chuck a fuse on the power cable (the 1 from the batt.) to play it safe till u get this problem fixd brother.. otherwise u gona blow your amp, or for all u know u already cooked the fuses on the amp and that might be the thing causing the smoke..

that is why "normal" people tell others to buy local, doesnt cost an arm and a leg to send it OS or get it back... if you get it back...

i got it fixed, and it was the amps problem, water had been leaking through my boot some how and corroded the underside of the amp, had to get it all replaced cost me 250 :(

and i only got 4 gauge haha
