An't they? For that price? haha, they've got to be a bloody genuine idiot to buy this car with that price, unless they are blind, have a look around, what sort of other cars they can get? Leather, hatch, 5 doors, plenty of choices mate.

but not many understand the things behind looks, brand, leather seats

for many ppl, esp females and the males who dont really care abt the performance bit. WILL choose the hot looks...and gotta say, that civic looks alright.

BRAND. Honda is well known i'd say? also with a high resale value as it does not depreciate as heavily.

Leather Seats...meh nothing much to say.

Performance? who gives a shxt?

if ppl fits the above, then thats why they choose to buy this hatch...

ohh also, they have a lot of $$ to throw around

IMO, Both cars look fugly esp the rear of the new Odyssey - looks like the rear of the previous Jazz. The previous Odyssey looks so much better - still does!

Idiot might be a bit harsh, unless of course, they have also neglected to drive out to the local VW dealer.

High spec'd Golf FTW or for some more cash those unable to drive a manual who like speed can get themselves a GTI with one of those sweet DSG boxes.

Of course, a fool and their money are always waiting to part. :p

We have a 08 GTI and an 08 Type R in the drive and while I the Golf has to be quicker (DSG is a factor), the Type R is so much more enjoyable to drive.

It's not as practical and its not good value for money, but the Type R is just way more fun.

As for the XR5 I can't speak for the driving experience (never driven one) but I sat in one a while back and felt wholly underwhelmed. It just felt like another Ford. On the street I might change my mind. I don't know.

i will never choose the FN2R simply becoz of the rear torsion beam design, its just not worth the money with that kind of chassis and body design...

we have a 08 GTI and a JDM EP3 Type R.

the Type R is enjoyable to drive only when there isn't a lot of traffic around. it is a nightmare in jams. manual box + light weight flywheel + relatively lack of low down torque + traffic jam = FTL

both are great cars for different reasons and they compliment each other well. but if i can only keep 1 then it will have to be the Golf.

Yeah, I agree, sort of.

Without getting into a EP3/FN2 debate, I drive my FN2 daily through medium to heavy traffic and find it okay - not as comfortable as the Golf is, agreed. Of course when I consider the experience on a nice B road, I am happy with this compromise.

I think both cars are really quite similar but are slightly bent in opposite directions. The Type R towards excitement and driver experience, while the GTI towards convenience and comfortable daily use.

Their both good cars but there's only one I take out of the driveway on purpose. :p

the Marketing Director at Honda has been made redundant...but i don't think it's because of this euro Civic Si.

seriously tho, $40k for that thing...I'd feel horrible to sell it to anyone. I'd have nightmares of those customers coming back and wanting their money back...LOL

NEWS FLASH!!!The XR5 isn't that fast anyway! In fact If I was a XR5 owner I would be a little disappointed in the performance area. The FN2 in a 1/4 mile drag for example, would be "even Stevens"with a XR5.A Golf GTI has similiar performance but without the 2.5L 5cylinder engine.
C'mon, people may joke about the performance of the FN2 but a 5 cylinder 2.5L turbo should be sitting right at the top of the hot hatch performance "tree".
Oh! by the way,I could've bought a XR5 turbo for well under $39,000(employee discount)-my dad used to work at Ford.I just didn't want to get stuck owning a Ford!
It seems we are entering the turbo age.Every new car is either turbo or supercharged.People just want to put the foot down and have instant torque so manufacturers slap on a turbo and presto!.... more power and torque.
Probably if the Type Rs were turbos they would attract more interest and maybe more sales. We would most likely see people that went to other manufacturers before, comeback to Honda. In a way though,Honda would also become just the same as the other manufacturers..would that be a good thing or a bad thing...I dunno?
In terms of real bang for your buck the upcoming new Mazda 3 MPS seems to have the goods!

That's why the Golf GTI is popular as an all rounder although I felt that the manual MkV GTI was a little underwhelming both in handling and performance (for a turbo, anyway).More people are thinking/feeling the same way that you do.
Cars like the FD2 Type R are,as you know, more of a niche car.If this car had been imported to Australia it would have easily win track tests/reviews, but it would've been considered torqueless compared to turbo cars...not to mention the harsher ride than the FN2!As for sales ,who knows? the FD2 R may have done better OR worse!
