View Full Version : Gabriel's EG SI B18c2
Hey team, 2nd time poster, long time listener. I had a 2006 Honda Euro for 10 months, and just sold it. Searched and searched for a replacement, wanting something smaller and more agile, and then i came into this...
It is a '91 Honda Civic EG SI, B18C2 engine swap, as well as a motza of things to go with it. So far ive had it for one day, and love it!
So far my plans are to drop in some HID's to start, and the next is to maybe look into the rims. Some days i hate them, some days i think they look super cute on the EG.
Anyway, let me know what you think! Any thoughts on what you would do with it!

mmm itr cluster, nice clean car
i think the strange look is because they sit slightly over the rubber lining of the door seal, so it breaks the line in a way, and looks off. its only day 3 now, time to start taking a look at getting that sorted!
the wheels are probably on the way out, they look cute, but just dont sit right with the style of the car i dont think?
what do you guys think, and more importantly .. recommend!
Im looking for HID's for the eg, i dont want too much blue so 6000k is what i desire
h4 hi/lo
what does anyone recommend
any experience with mu secrets and kaixens? they seem to be pretty reputable.. any differences?

Nice EG Gabriel - nice and clean =]
ive never seen those mirrors before - they real spoon?
as for HIDs, my cousin has mu secrets on hes ride and when i was buying mine i was tossing up between ebay cheapos and those....i shouldve bought the mu secrets.
brother had kaixens on hes car aswell and they are great.
so up to you really - imo, both are good.
btw - can you post a clearer pic of the itr cluster? interested to see what fitment is like :]

Welcome Gabriel.
Interesting colour, not sure if I like it or not. I think it needs some new rims that compliment the Blue. I feel like saying a set of white wheels but that might look a bit strange.
Can you take some more pictures of the cluster? I am keen to see what has been cut away to make it sit right.
no no you're right on the wheels, i wanted the type r white rims, but they're 5 studs, and i dont know if i want to get involved in that whole change.. but definitely looking for white rims to replace!
the mirrors are genuine spoon series 1, they give a unique look to the car i feel
the colour coding and the overall colour is different, but when you see it, you'll love it. people are constantly commenting on it!
mu secret, kaixen, or autotecnica - 350, 330, 270 respectively.
will i notice any differences you think? i dont want to pay mu secret just for the branding, if autotecnica has the same gear. i know all of these kids are rebranded to millions of names from the same original pieces...
as for the cluster, i will put up a new photo this afternoon when i get home, stay posted
but to ruin the ending for you
it doesnt fit perfectly, which at first threw me, but from the drivers view you cant tell the difference really. the cluster certainly looks good though!
what are the thoughts on eg jdm amber corners..

Yeah I just want to see if it will be possible to make some CarbonFibre bits to fill the gaps.
About the Amber corners, it's definitely what the kids are doing these days haha. I have a set and when I put them on I thought it gave the car a great look but I grew tired of them and have since swapped back to stock.

Yeah they look nice.
ATM I have a love affair with the Volk CE28N style.
MR RED
if i may call you that
everyyyyyyyyyyyyyyone has an apparent love affair with the Volk CE28N's!
I think the white would stand out nicely, whereby some bronze volks would blend in with the rest of it.
i will get some pics up tonight of all the angles on the ITR dash install, but there is a fair gap, as it seems to be a completely different shape all together!
if you think up a way to cover it, we'll do it together i say
in other news i ordered a pair of kaixen 6000k h4 hi/lows today, express post, should have them in very very soon. if i can put it together, i'll post a guide of some sort, or at least some before after pics. very excited to start the tweaking to make it more of my own!

I've only recently started having relations with the CE28N ;)
You can call me MR RED, my name is Rodney if you prefer.
I'm trying to work out if i can retrofit the ITR gauges into an EG cluster, or maybe I will have to make a custom set up.
I hope you do make up a guide, I'd be very interested.

the whole car :)
i got the whole car with a bit of a friends discount, with 2 extra tyres with rims (the tyres are great, re001 adrenalin's), respray of all the scratches, and a full servicing, before pick up.
close to the asking price. still a bit pricey, but its pretty much a complete racer, which was specially setup for the track, with expensive parts.
im happy with it.
the cluster i will get pics up, and together we will sort this out. i dont like the misfit, im hoping no one notices it!
it was all worth it, just for the detachable steering wheel ;)

i like it, nice buy. nice n neat, thumbs up man
thanks brother, since this is an intro/build thread, heres a bomb drop...
all my years, i only drove auto! tiptronic at the most in my euro.
so i bought this car, without knowing how to drive it, and have only been driving for 2 days on my own now ahahhahahha
manual is a big change, in the entire outlook to driving. it's amazing, i feel like im really gaining a new skill :)
only a few more stalls to go, before im on my way to effortless driving. so if you see me around, and im stopped at a green light, dont beeeeeep meeeeeeee!
car is super fun to learn and drive in, the clutch point is super low, so everything is going on all the time!
its very clean, its very fast, and its very fun! if anyone sees me around sydney, please do come over and say hi. you'll know the car as soon as you see it!
still waiting on the HID's, and the cluster pics will be up soon. stressing out about ambers. why do jdm cars come with those extra bits, that are just so much more thought out? the clear lights dont do it for me.
i also have 3 more rims, might sell them. we'll see how we go.
ok 7 genuine ek4 rims are most likely ready to leave me, pm me if you're interested with an offer
excellent condition all round

My friction point is high, it has it's advantages but at times a low point would be good.
About the Amber's I'm not 100% on the whole JDM thing, Most EG6's that I see on auction websites etc have the clear corners.
thats true, im not huge on the jdm image, but i think the colour would just offset the blue well. we'll see on that though, still up in the air.
anywho, the long awaited itr cluster pics. as you can see, placement is not even close to good, so a carbonfiber surrounding might be in the works, and in my opinion that would look even better than a perfect fit

do you guys know of any set of white rims, similar to the type r style, but with 4 stud? has to be 15"..
after looking at those pics, it struck me how unwell it fits. but seriously from the drivers angle, you cant see it, it is held in perfectly.
anyway, carbon fibre will be the go i think, or should i just leave it. it doesnt bother me, but i know it just doesnt look right
oh and i think this is what im after:
http://www.tempetyres.com.au/products_closeup.asp?part=&part_no=139
or at least similar to that type r style. once i choose it, the ek4 rims are rolling out the door.
anyone interested in 3 ek4 rims for now, let me know. sydney

Welcome to Ozhonda Gabriel
Enjoy your stay here, As per your picture I see you're in Sydney.
You should come to one of our Monthly Meets and mix and mingle with everyone :)

btw, Have you taken her (My car is a female, is yours male?) to the strip yet?
Or is this just a fun daily?
Must say its very nice, would love to see it in-person sometime soon :)
as soon as you decide on a date and time for the monthly meet, i'll see if i can find my way there! :P
so far, shes a girl. shes petite, but has the power when she needs to. im wanting to take it to the track once i get a little more experience with the handling and suspension, after all it was built for track use. the suspension is hard, and the sway bars and struts keep her in line while cornering
still havent had the time to give everything a good wash, waiting for the rain to stop so i can start scrubbing!
you'll see her as soon as shes ready, washed, and out of the shower ahahah

Ah yes plenty of gaps, something for me to consider.
The amber corners are like everything else, you get what you pay for. The cheap ones look cheap and tend to fade easier and when you look at the more expensive ones and although they feel more solid and are less likely to fade they are overpriced.
If you were to get those Lenso's I'd suggest colour coding the centre caps.
There is so many different rims out there that you'll find plenty to suit what you want.
Rodney, do you still own the ambers? If so, sell them to me!
If not ... i'll let the idea go for now, until i decide otherwise.
PS had a look at your car pics, yours looks sweet, turns out mine was red as well before the blue respray!
ok now, next issue on hand. the car was previously stripped for track use, so it is light as a feather. as a result, on the street, the interior of the cabin sounds like an earthquake..
i am struggling to adapt this track racing wonder to be compatible with the mean streets of sydney!
i have found out the sources of the rattles.
the doors
the back seats
ive spent all day searching on line for how to fill the door cavity with some sort of filling, it rattles and feels so hollow when i drive that it would be perfect on a track, but not the streets.
can i just buy big squares of foam from jaycar and try to pack it in, or do i need to buy these sound deadening strips that stick to the panel? the latter seems like much more effort...
OR can i but self expanding foam, and spray until theres nothing left in the can? experiences anyone?
for the seats in the back - i have examined and found that they look something like below:
http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x265/ggutnik/untitled.jpg
hows that for a drawing! ok, imagine you're sitting in the front, and you turn to face the back seats.
in the middle seat, there is one bolt, shown as the 'o'
BUT
the bottom of the seats are held in place but a U shaped piece of metal, that simply sits into a hole on the body underneath - ie. it is not secured down, just sitting inside a cavity
so, when there are bumps, which in this case (due to the track suspension) = any surface of the road, the bottom of the seat lifts up, only a centimetre i guess, but enough to hear it bouncing around. the metal hooks scraping against the metal body were squeaking like crazy, so i wrapped it in duct tape to eliminate the sound, and allow only the slightest cushion to lessen the jumping.
but i need this fixed, its annoying to drive with. any ideas of how to bolt the back seats down? im not interested in removing them for the track, im not THAT obsessed with weight loss. ask my girlfriend, she'll tell you.
experienced car peeps, help meeeeeeeeeeee!

Thanks, mine still needs lots of work.

I'm not sure about the doors, has anything been removed from them to make them rattle? The doors are pretty light and I don't think they have any sound deadening from factory.
For the rear seats if the tape is working you could just leave it at that, no one sees it. But I can understand wanting something a bit better. Mine is loose, but not loose enough to bounce around.

Nice car! seen it on carsales for a while! Good buy :)
I installed the Kaixen HID's i bought of this forums trader, and it worked fine for a day. now the lo beam on the hi/lo drivers side will not ignite.
i have checked the wiring, changed ballasts, and am just about to change the bulbs later as the final check
but. is it possible i need to get a battery harness relay, from the ballast direct to the battery, instead of running it through the OEM harness, which runs through the system electrics??
so in a discussion with one of the members here, i asked how his fuel economy goes.. he said 500-700 on a b16
bear in mind i have a b18c2, with the listed mods, but im getting around 350-400 TOPS per 40L tank..
what is going on? the car is tuned for performance, and granted i drive it hard because i love it, but is this figure correct??
although in saying that, on my euro which was 65L of premium fuel, i was just under 500kms a tank.
perhaps its me.
PERHAPS.

Went down after I put new tyres on.
Do you know exactly what has been tuned for performance?

It comes down to how heavy your right foot is mate. You need to monitor it base on constant hard driving and easy driving. Try a tank of easy driving first.
well im running bridgestone adrenalin re001's
well i have an itr ecu, a b18c2, and an apexi neo controlling the vtec point and air mix ratio..
i have tried a week of easy driving, but i cant do it, its just so hard when i need to over take someone etc..
thanks BOO IT, its a cutie isnt it. the colour is a talking point, its brings people together. changes the world.
i will put up pics tonight with the new amber corners, but it looks better than i expected! even my immigrant parents have commented on it, they think its a nice little detail ahahaha
stay posted!
and the HID's are in, full pics tonight
so zooming around the east, i noticed that my left indicator light on the dash was ticking a little fast. no biggie, check it when i get home.
turns out the whole unit had gone kapish, most likely into someones parked car, or a pedestrian. i can only imagine.
so i got the ambers i had been pondering previously, no way could a DIY set look this good!

yep ordered them from the US
the fitting for the globe is unfortunately only a millimetre or so smaller than it needs to be, so i shoved it in, and prayed it wont pop out. any issues and i'll either tape it in, or get ye olde bluetack on the case
