I'm supposed to be getting new rims tomorrow, however because my car is a 2003 model (ie. fairly new), I'm wanting to make it all legal with the size increases, offset, etc...

The current rims I have on are:

14 x 5.5' with an offset of +45
Tyres: 185/70/R14 = rolling diameter of 616mm

The rims I am supposed to be getting are:

17 x 7' with an offset of +38
Tyres: 205/45/R17 = rolling diameter of 615mm

I am a little worried about the offset being different, anyone able to shed some light on this for me?

Also, once I lower it will the offset have any effect on how it looks?

i tink a jump from 14 to 17 is illegal but who cares.
a lot of civics have 17 or bigger wheels on with no problems
the offset of +38 means the wheels wont sit flush with the wheel arches
they may actually stick out a bit
if u lower too much there may be a little rubbing
if u can live with it then go ahead

if ur stock rims are +45 mm offset, then picture ur wheels sticking out a further 6mm. i'm not sure if u will scrub on the inside when u say chuck a u-wee with full lock turn but depending on how much u lower it and ur tyre profile, u may experience rubbing on the guards..but does look more aggressive =P

when choosing a tyre, to be legal, u need to have the correct weighting (that's what i think it's called from memory)(it's gotta b either equal or greater). u know the number that is between 80-abt 95ish on the tyre specs? i.e. 85V ek civics require like 85 i think. u can c it on the frame of the driver's side when u open the door or in the user's manual.

I have 18*7.5 with 215/35 on my ek with coilovers. I droped it heaps and it doesnt scrub at all. Take a look its in the gal. If you wana buy my 18's they are for sale:) my rims are a 40mm offset but 38 would be great.
