that might be for repeat offenders or something. the bad thing is you are probably black listed now, and the cops will keep pulling you over

As to whether it's considered a high powered vehicle depends on when you got your Ps.
The definition of a high powered vehicle (after 1 July 2007) is:
New restrictions on driving high powered vehicles were introduced for probationary licence drivers who obtained their licence from this date.
From this date a probationary licence holder cannot drive a vehicle if it has:
An engine of eight or more cylinders;
A turbocharged or supercharged engine (except diesel powered vehicles);
An engine that has been modified to increase its performance; and/or
Any of the following high performance six cylinder vehicles as published in the Government Gazette (http://www.arrivealive.vic.gov.au/initiatives/safer_road_users/new_graduated_licensi/high_powered_vehicle_restrictions_that_apply_if_yo .html).
While the definition of a high powered vehicle (prior to 1 July 2007):
A power to mass ratio which exceeds 125 kilowatts per tonne; or
An engine capacity which exceeds 3.5 litres per tonne of the unladen mass (tare) of the motor vehicle.
Hope that helps.

Or, maybe when you're on your Ps and driving a high powered car you should pull your head in and not attract attention to yourself.
Just another opinion.

this guy has answered you
there are no more questions to ask
ur car is not legal for you to drive on your Ps
that doesnt mean u have to sell it....just take AUS2000's advice and start driving like a person with brains and ull be fine
i know plenty of ppl driving cars that are over the power to weight..
i havent read all the responses to this but if you got your licence before june 2007 then its considered a high powered vehicle due to power to weight.. But if you got it after june 2007, your allowed to drive it. They screwed up these laws nicely imo.

ok, i assumed u wer way over the limit
how fast wer u going?
and my main point is, if u drive under the limit and just try to not draw attention, u will be fine
no need for drastic actions such as selling ur car...
Oh and regarding the post krogoth posted up.. I've been fined once for speeding, I get pulled over quite often in my car and i wouldnt be doing anything wrong. I guess it all depends on your luck because im pulled over quite often whilst doing nothing wrong. Which means yes a P plater is driving with brains. I got pulled over 12 times in 3 hours, and sometimes by the same cops and all i would be doing is just driving through the area. Thats my record so far. OH and not fined or canaried on any of those occasions.

^fair enough
but thats unusual, ive got mates with overpowered cars that havent had any problems yet...in 2.5 years....only one defect
but they are very careful about it...they avoid driving in hotspots, stay in the left lane, whenever they see a cop they always keep one or two cars behind them..

i had some power hungry leading senior constable from port phillip traffic management unit in a highway patrol car pull me over
he didnt even say anything about the high powered fine and just sent it to me in the mail 3 days later
sorry to hear papa.. how fast were you going? all senior constables are power hungry man especially the ones in any TMU lol.

when the cop pulled you up did you admit to anything? as in when he said "what is the reason for your speeding to night sir?" did you respond "i was only..... I was just....." or "I wasnt speeding", because if you gave any sort of admission then they now have that on there personal recording device, that they then take back to the station and make your statement out of. So if you are fighting the ticket and loss of licence, you are going to court to fight it, but if in your statement you have admitted to anything your fu*ked. If you flat out denied everything, by all means get a good lawyer and fight. Also did the highway patrol man have his hat and high vis jacket on, because if he didnt you can fight him on that :P
When i got pulled over doing just over 25's, i denied all of it.. but he said i'll show you the camera so i hopped out and had a look and i took it on the chin.. i didnt notice how fast i was going nor did i think i was speeding which is the only reason why i denied it.. (i'm alot more cautious now lol) I started speaking to him as we we're both outside of our cars he said any police officer who pulls you over and says "you were speeding" must show you the camera/gun whatever you wanna call it. And if they dont show you, take the fine and challenge it.
krogoth
27-04-2009, 07:25 PM
^they dont have to show u anything
they can just follow u at whatever speed u wer going and then pull u over saying that he matched speeds with u and thus determined that u wer speeding

^they dont have to show u anything

also true, just remember to deny everything!
kgroth if i took that to court im pretty sure i would win. There is no way possible to "match speeds" with someone. Unless you had a digital speedo, even then who said it would be accurate to the car their behind? I honestly think thats a load of crap. ofnsive careful people in here might feel offended with what you just said about denying everything lol.
ofnsivtypeR
27-04-2009, 07:43 PM
LOL!
They feel they can match speeds with you and tell you that you were speeding because "apparently" the speedos in all cop cars are calibrated properly and more accurately than normal cars. Where our cars give us between 3 - 6 KM/H variance, for example at speedo reading of 60km/h we are really travelling 57km/h, their cars do not, and no they also do not use the digital speedo used on most new holdens or fords, they use a stand alone speedo for matching speeds.
Would make sense, but why have many cops not given fines if they dont have a gun? Like i hear it from my mates quite often :|

guess it depends on car, driver, registered owner, they check on the onboard computer, and if car is clean then your generally ok for 3 or 4 kms over. but if you have history, or are blacklisted, or have memorable plates then its "just a random check sir" :|
"so, where is the turbo mate"
idiots.
JAP-S2K

I guess the popo in syd are more forgiving. Generally your sweet with about 10% over. Hearing 3-4kms over seems pretty harsh.

27-04-2009, 08:05 PM
cops in VIC from my experiences are harsh as, especially in the north, and at the moment it is pathetic. if you are driving on a monday, thursday, or sunday night, they jump to the conclusion you are out for the drags!
haha, typer, i was going through the city and on lygon st (the worst place i always get pulled over there) One cop asked me if my POD filter was a turbo lol.. same thing happend in fawkner except fawkner and i forgot the other one in the city the TMU around those areas know me by name, my car isnt registered under my name! Kinda sucks but their fine after awhile they get used to seeing you around lol. oh i do remember doing exactly 9k's over the limit straight passed a cop cause i had to turn so i overtook, and i saw them pointing the gun at me but i didnt get pulled over lol.. and that was on bell st..
EDIT:: those drags arent all that lol. their not even drags their idiots thinking they can do burnouts till they hit something lol. But i agree alot of cops here are harsh but then again it depends how you react to them and where you are.

27-04-2009, 08:10 PM
TOG-ie points at rear tower bar, says "i believe VICroads stipulates that any roll bar in the car needs to be covered with padding" I reply "its not a roll bar? its a strut bar, and its in the boot?" and get back "Oh, so if its not a roll bar what exactly does it do then?" in an extremly sarcastic tone, like i was wrong.

That's ok son. ;)
I was actually referring to the idea that the OP is going to fight this. As though this was something new.
Suck it up and take it like a man. You were being an idiot in a 50 zone. Face the consequences of your actions.
You dont now if he was speeding Aus, infact no one does but himself and the cop.. well the gun could be wrong.. but meh, if he was doing 84 the cop would of issued a loss of licence not just a fine
AusS2000
28-04-2009, 09:52 AM
LOL, he weren't doing 50 was he.
Here's my take: He was driving spiritedly in a 50 zone. Why not? He's invincible right! Cop pulls him over, says he was doing 84 and lets him off lightly with a ticket. The system notices he is driving a car he is not registered for and send him a High Powered ticket. But Studly doesn't think this is fair. Why should the rules apply to him? He's above them and is going to fight it.

28-04-2009, 10:18 AM
ok Aus i was travelling at 50 but i drove past in second so it sounded like i was driving spiritedly. The police officer who pulled me over wasn't even on duty i drove past a morning conventionthat the Victoria Police had on Monday (there was like 40 cop cars) morning in at a Yacht Club on Albert Park and one of them pulled out a laser from their car and then i was pulled over about 3 min later. if i was speeding and pulled over for a legit reason i would take it on the chin

28-04-2009, 10:32 AM
Hmmm, I can actually believe that. I can't count the number of times I've been cruising side streets at 50 near my place and people have shouted 'Slow Down'.
But if they got you with the laser you're gone.
I think everyone with an s2000 has had that problem aus lol.. i travel 40 in first when i wanna annoy people down 40 streets =]

Lasers are sighted and directional. I highly doubt there was a mistake.
Did anyone see some of the stuff to do with lasers on today tonight awhile ago? could still be faults in them..

110 stretch of road and i was doing 100...
oncoming traffic flashed their lights and signalled me to slow down.. i was confused... as you would when your 10 under the limit..
i just took further precaution as maybe there was police presence further down...
