View Full Version : High pitch buzzing sound (in my exhaust?)

I noticed this when I first got the car, between 2500 and 3000 revs there's a high pitched buzzing noise coming from my car, I think its coming from the exhaust. It happens in every gear.
At first I thought it was something loose in my cannon, and I've had my axle-back replaced. And it seemed to get quieter, but it was still there.
But recently its been getting louder and more noticeable again.
Anyone had this kinda problem before, or know what it might be?

when you got your catback done you didn't put a resonator on did you? notice the factory exhaust has one.... Honda put it there to get rid of the buzz.... it happens regardless what muffler you have even a perfect condition stocker.

I didn't get the catback done, the previous owner got it done. But I don't think there's a resonator on it. So the problem may not have anything to do with my cat, and I might require a resonator to be put into my exhaust somewhere ?

yep.
see everyone thinks a 'resonator' somehow reduces noise... the function of a resonator is to change the resonant frequency in air... in exhaust cases from fast to slow... or in other words high pitched to deep.
'resonators' often get mixed up for mid-mufflers which actually muffle noise and reduce decibel
get the biggest/longest one you can fit for the system and make sure you get a resonator... a mid-muffler won't actually help you with your problem

Can be many things! Could be Cat, but I doubt it. Most likely a resignator. OR it could be that exhaust piping is really thin, and it vibrates alot (common with BuddyClub exhausts - cos they are really thin). More noticable, if a proper flex joint thingo isn't put in.
Throw it on a hoist, and bang around to see what's loose.

I just changed from a stock to full XForce exhaust and I think I have this "buzz" too. All the mechanics who have looked at it say it's perfectly normal though. They have tried to describe it as the flow of the air through the pipes. I guess it could also be the lack of resonator too. :) This would mean almost everyone with an aftermarket exhaust and no resonator would have the noise yes?

yeah stainless steel exhaust tend to have more buzzing, due to thin walls.
you get some still with mild steel but less so.
Usually a reasonator will fix the prob, but in this case may be the exhaust is on its way out and some of the baffle is loose.
get it to an exhaust shop and get someone to have a look at it.
