View Full Version : shocks: Rubber thing cracked

When changing my stock springs to lowering springs, one of the rubber things for the shocks dropped off. It was cracked and i think it just ripped off from the rest of the rubber parts to the shocks.
i've been driving for a few months like this now, and the only thing is that it doesn't dampen the feel when you go over a bump real fast. its part of my rear suspension, so when it goes over a hump, (that i didn't see) and it wheels touch the ground again, i can feel and hear a massive crack, feels real nasty. though i got a heads up what will happen when they changed my springs.
just wondering, what are the long term effects of this, and whats the likely cost to repair this.

Which rubber part are you talking about?
Got a pic of where the rubber was sitting.... Will make life alot easier...
But in the end, it's not healthy for the car + shocks, thats for sure...

yeah, doesnt really help.. what sort of mountings do they have? fork or the slip in sorta one? a pic will be heaps helpful
but im sure they have that rubber there for a reason and not having it there would be causing abit of damage... have you thought of simply replacing the rubber ?

it looks like a 8cm donut lol? (())
and its suppossed 2 be used so that bumps are like, dampen or w/e so that u don't have such a harsh feel when u go over one really fast.

sounds like the bottom of the shock body that connects to the LCA, ( the bit where the bolt goes through) the bushing inside must have deteriorated and cracked..if its not that. the only other rubber component of the shock i can think of is the bumpstops.
Something like the following pic issit OP?

yeh the bumpstop is very important i advise you go to an auto shop and buy a bumpstop. its ment to stop the suspensions from compressing all the way down

yeah, i need a BUMPSTOP, not the bushing thing
anyway, so when i go over bumps, the springs coils collide together and that sounds nasty
the only problem is, i forgot which rear shock it was zzzz, and i remember it was a bitch to get the rear suspension out as all this shit was in the way, and getting it back on was even harder.

thats what the bumpstop looks like, just take it to a suspesion shop and get them to take it off for you because you need the right tools to take suspension off. Also just get two new bumpstop and install them both so atleast you know there both new and in aboth year your going to have to do the other side, bumpstop are not expensive.

wait.
man you are so confused.
a bumpstop will look like something like this
http://www.ground-control-store.com/images/datapage/bumpstop_dp.jpg
it goes on the shock tube itself, and prevents the shock absorber from bottoming out and metal hitting metal
what you are missing is the rubber that wraps around the spring itself to prevent binding

thats what i just posted, this is where the bump stop is suppose to go http://image.off-roadweb.com/f/17873403/0904or_12_z+installing_bump_stops+daystar_evs.jpg

notice how there is a minute diff between our posts?
i wasnt referring to you. you posted while i was posting.
the thing i reckon mwaku is asking about is the rubber around the spring. this person replaced them with hose

okay my bad lol... i dont think mwaku is talking about that, but it might be the problem aswell. but when i done my suspension i didnt put that on my springs or any kind of rubber on them.. i see what the problem is now she has lowered spring on stock shocks thats the problem to fix that need lowered shocks
yeah its called bumper stops or stoppers. i've seen a few of them fall off while changing springs aswell. its cause its old. just go get a new one.
