B16a - red or black cover?

Just a quick one, Ive seen b16 with a red or black cover.

Whats the diff?

Black B16A2 (Civic VTiR EK4) = 118 kW

Red B16B (JDM Civic Type R EK9) = 134 kW

Red rockers are only used on the type R range and the s2000.

All base or mid performance models used black rocker covers.

If it has the R badge itll have the red cover unless it came as factory option (if that exists)

Even the nsx base had a black cover.

Its not like nissan where its black gold white and rainbow tops.
Hondas use theyre engine numbers to signify what engine came from what car.
eg. B16a Widely used engine in crx's, SiR cars, vti r's and came with a variant number after the a, which signifies power output.
B16B. Only in the ek9.

Theres a gazillion honda engines out there. They cant use coloured rocker covers to signify power outputs. =]

Lots of people do rocker cover swaps or repaint their rocker covers to red in colour. So you can't rely on the colour of the rocker cover to signify the type of engine it is. You have to check the engine model number on the block and also check the head marking.

to make it somewhat simple....

only the type r blocks come from factory come with the 1.8l block and type r Pr3 head... the b16b is a destroked 1.8l block

Painting mine white, see if that makes it any faster, if not, at least it will show any oil leaks :thumbsup:

did u polish it first before painting? and then put a coat of clear on top? otherwise it will be a bitch to wipe and clean. The smoother it is, the easier it is to maintain.
