Hey guys,

Wondering how it's possible to tell if your piston rings are friend?

Car's not blowing smoke, did not over heat prior to this incident.

Car does not start atm, each spark plugs is drenched at in oil.. So it looks like oil is pushing up into the cylinder..

Need to find out exactly what the problem is, if its a cheap fix or not ~ before I sell off the car, as it looks like I've got another car ready.

May be a small issue I can fix and sell as a running car etc.

Appreciate the help :)

use a common compression tester which can be purchased for ~$30 at supercheap.

- warm up car to operating temp
- remove all plugs going to dizzy
- take compression reading
- pour ~5ml of engine oil into combustion chamber
- take compression reading again
- if the number increased significantly then rings are gone

That sounds good, but the car won't start.

Can't warm the car up..

You can do the test cold also

if there is oil all over the pulgs try cleaning them putting them back in and turing the motor over agian see if it starts if it dosent then take them out if there is oil all over them agian then it could be your headgasket or rings either way you will have the take the head off from there to see what the damage is, i honestly dont think it will be a easy quick fix from what you have said

you don't need the car running, you just need to be able to crank it

I see,

Boost - I did exactly what you said before I posted the thread hey, didn't work.

@ all else =] , I'll try doing it cold I guess.
The car does try to start.. but that's about it.

Just need to know if its def the head ~ if It is, I'm going to just sell it anyways ~

you won't know if its the head without removing it.

for example 2 adjacent cylinders having low compression could be a sign of a blown head gasket or cracked/warped block and/or head
