View Full Version : Fluid leak?
Hey all,
I have a 1998 ej8 coupe with buddyclub N+ damper. I have checked all my fluids and they seem fine.
Basically,
I did the dumbest thing yesterday.. i let a friend drive my car for a bit and he ended up hitting a gutter at 70km/h...
Okay so i checked it out this morning and found this: (pictures are of the right wheel turned completely to the right)

The shock itself seems fine, its clean, doesnt have any fluid leaking from what i can see... the car drives/handles the same at the moment. The fluid itself can be described as a 'chocolate fudge' in colour and texture.
Any idea on what could be wrong? thanks

Its your cv boot. Big boot thats on the drive shaft
Change it asap. Change both inner an outer cv boot while you do it.

Gearbox oil...
Make ur friend pay for it, and hit him aswell - also tell him he can't drive for shit.
is this a very expensive part to replace?

How could gearbox oil splash that far? If it was gearbox oil, the car wouldnt even get into gear properly and probably get stuck before it gets into gear.
The wet area looks to be the grease release from a split cv boot.
i think is the drive shaft too, and there is a chance you need to replace the CV joint, you better get a mechanic to check for you ASAP, as it can affect the gearbox too if continue driving.

Looks like its the split CV boot. I got that same thick/mucus-like fluid everywhere in that area too. Haven't gotten mine fixed yet, but that's coz I don't drive. If you wanna keep driving your car around get it fixed asap!

It is clearly the CV boot as can be seen in the pictures...
I'm just wondering though, HOW exactly did your mate hit the gutter??
Th only angle i can see for the gutter to even reach that side would be if he mounted it from the left side with 90% of the car on the curb and the right side still on the road with the curb edge scraping the cv joint?? i don't even see how he's not dead if he was doing 70km/h

Woo hoo! Everyones a winner, except Mr Gearbox oil... Big lol!
I + the rest, recommend replacing the whole shaft... Hitting a gutter at 70km/hr would damage anything! If you don't want to pay for replacing the whole shaft, get a mechanic to MAKE SURE that the current shaft is still in excellent condition, but merely needs a boot change... Bestest of luck! Don't let nubs drive your Ferrari... It's like letting them have a turn of your Mrs...
thanks all for the quick response.
today i had my cv boot replaced.... another question.. is it normal for the steering wheel movement to feel a little bit more resistant after a cv boot change? will this ease off once the part is worn in or?

you need a wheel alignment... your toe/camber would be pretty screwed right about now.

as dp26 said.. if your friend hit a kerb hard enough.. it most likely would cause the wheel alignment to go totally out.. so go get one and see how it feels
