Here's a pic: http://atlas.walagata.com/w/l-driver/65_1_b.jpg

My exhaust piping is currently stock but I plan to upgrade to 2.25" once I get my conversion done. Anyways, my current muffler is just way too loud so I'm thinking of getting the one above cause it has a bigger resonator (is it too big that I'll lose alot of power?). It's 2.5" inlet/outlet so what do you guys think?
I wanted a deep sound so I'd say 2.5" outlet with quite a big resonator will give me that ideal sound?
Also how much would exhausts shops charge me to weld the muffler on? Will they use some kind of adaptor cause the stock piping is 1.75" aren't they?

Thanks guys

nah, 2.25" is a reasonable max size for a civic considering the engine displacement, u won't lose much power by using it. however, if u change the exractor together, u gonna found there's significant increase high end power.
bigger resonator won't cause u lose power either, but better with high flow cat.
weld the muffler on is cheap, i 'd say less than 50 bux(base on the cat back is the same size as the muffler). the muffler shop will cut ur sotck muffler off, and weld the new one on by adding a short steel adaptor to the stock 1.75" piping, extra charge may apply. or they may suggest u to change the cat back to 2.25" piping.

yeah thats what i was thinking, since i'm going to upgrade the exhaust in the future i may aswell get it catback then.
so there shouldn't be any power loss right?

ur low end power will be slightly affected due to the larger exhaust, high end will be improved anyways.

i found its not so much the muffler just the resonators u put on the for the different pitch in sound. I have a pretty big muffler and it use to sound real crispy and like a can of beans. But when i was gettin the work done they changed some resonators or somethin and now its a real low purring tone.... :)
good luck bro

You have a D15 twin-carb right? 2 1/4 is too big. That's B16A territory (ie what came stock on my EF9). I ran a 1 3/4 mandrel bent system on my previous GL (ED6) and that worked a treat. There is no high end on a D15 so 2 1/4 is a waste.

In regards to the muffler - until you do a conversion, just get an inexpensive high flow muffler and run a hot-dog if you need to shut it up a bit.

yeah this muffler is like 50 bucks lol
anyways, cause since i gotta get it welded i was thinking of getting catback aswell thats why to make it worth the time.
but i just wanted to know if 2 1/4 will actually make me lose power either top end or bottom end? this is just for catback by the way.
i'll get the complete exhaust (cat and headers) once my conversion is done.

you will lose some bottom, but you will get a fair bit of top..
