Hey guys quik q...

Would going from 14s with fat tyres to 17s with low profile change the driveability in the car dramatically?

I herd on a 1.5 litre car 17s or 18s may be a tad too large for the car

Ive got a 1.8l integra and asking opinions if 17s are overkill on a DA9 and should stick to 16s or something else?

thanks

What are you using the car for?

Track, get 15's or 16's
Street, get 16's or 17's
Sexspec, Get 17's or 18's

I hav a dc4 n went from stocko 14's to 17's... weight was nearly identical between the 2 sets of wheels so acceleration remained the same but yeah, u will notice that ur steering wheel will start pulling sideways whenever u go over a bump n the ride as well as much stiffer feelin ride... i bought a set of lightweight 15's 2 use on cruises etc n since puttin em on havnt taken off n sold the 17's... imo get urself a set of 15's or 16's n u wont regret it.

There is defiantly a change in handling but it depends on how you like your ride and if your picky with the changes.

I've gone from 16x7.5 to 18x7.5

and now I'm running 18x9.5 and 18x10.5 but i got wide rims so i can keep it sexy and also have some width for traction.

But in my opinion if i was going to get some track rims/tyres i would get some 16x10's or something all round on some fat tyres.

theoretically steering response should be increased.

when you turn the steering wheel (eventually) the direction of the wheels changes.

the flexing of the tyre means that the time between you turning the wheel and the actual movement of the contact patch can vary.

think about a 4wd - very high profile tyre. when the rim itself moves, the tyre will flex and thus the actual change in orientation of the wheel will lag behind the change in position of the steering wheel.

a lower tyre profile will improve this, but it will also be affected by the stiffness of the sidewall.

but lower profile tyres give a bumpier ride and can be more prone to tramlining.

WOW 16x10!!! Nah man, i rekon ud struggle 2 find rims in that size n unless ur dragging i dont think anoythin ova 8" wide is necessary on a lil honda. i think 16x7 is the way 2 go, kinda in between, still look pretty big if ur car is low enough

its easy to get 16x10 but extremely expensive and you gotta get them from japan. But when you pushing over 300hp atw's u kinda need this amount of tread on the floor. I was pushing 240hp atw's and in my new build im expecting 320hp. Daily driving on 215's is just wheel spin.

Im watching a few on ebay atm.. or a guy offering to sell some 5 star 16'' with tyres for 400.. just seeing which ones I like better. Alot of them have crappish to OK tyres so yeh trying to source a set with driveable tyres for a while otherwise I would be better off buyin just some rims and saving up for some tyres.

I think ill go 16's as you kind helpful fellows have suggested.. as my car is already quite low with 14s so 16s should sit nice!

TimmyB- If I get the rims on sat which I should, Ill be up for a cruise on sunday to that road place you all were talkin about? lol

Ill post up some before and after pics when I get the rims hopefully this weekend!

cheers all

I will hopefully have a few things done to the DC5 by then.. ( 17" wheels, CAI, Drop)
but the way im going atm i have things to pay, and both my civic and dc5 are due for a service, so i dont think i will get to do anything to the car untill next month.

Oh yeah..

and Im going from stocko 14 x 5.5 to 16 x 7 or 17 x 7

I pm'd a dude with a nice integra and he kindly replied back with some info.. saying it could scrub but not too many issues.

My main issue is scrubbing especially when full - lock turning.. as I have thrown some pics up of my car before to show how low it is.

It does, although at the moment, have pretty fat 14'' tyres so if I go 16 or 17 hopefully theyll fit nice with some low profile tyres!
