Anyone seen this before? Is it true that this won't work on CAN bus or will it just require more labour? It's supposed to be the best around and I checked out WoW and JB Hifi and they don't sell it.

i work in the industry and have never heard of clifford alarms, and concidering no one else has leaving us to conclude its only sold on ebay, its probably a peice of shit, and good luck getting some one to fit it/warranty it if something goes wrong, and unless its canbus specific its not compatable with a canbus equipped car as a standard electrical system and a canbus system are completly different, canbus works on signal pulses where as a traditional electrical system works on relays and electrical triggers

Would you know if a 06 RB1 Odyssey is a Canbus or standard electical system? Thanks

Cifford is comparable to DEI alarms, there quite good alarm systems.

Only problem is there not aussie standard

This is correct, and not to diss the other guy, but I believe opening your mouth up like that is just ignorant. It's like saying "JL Audio sucks" because it isn't very widely sold in places like WoW and things like that. Lemme guess...you have a Pioneer System with Clarion speakers? Read up before you post or stfu.

Dude you probably haven't been in the industry long, and if you have...you must not get out much outside of what suppliers come door to door....

A simple search of cars with a "clifford alarm" on Autotrader.com reveals cars such as Vipers, BMWs, WRXs, Supras, Mustangs, Lexus, Mercedes, etc. Yeah they must be a "piece of $hit"

alpine 9835 running pxa-h701 processor with rux701 stand alone controller, morel supremo tweeters running off butler tube driver blue 2.150 2channel amp, image dynamics cx64 mids running off a steg qmos 310.2 2 channel amp, dd 9115 15" sub running off an old school us amps class ab 2 channel giving the sub aboud 2.8k rms, got about 4 bulk packs of dynamat throughout the car, dynamat xtreme liner on the front floors and dynaliner in the rear ... also got a brax multi controller to keep an eye on things aswell as a brax ipc 2 farad cap, running 2 optima d 34 yallow tops, one up front and one up back with a redarc isolation system, all stinger cabling, distro's, relays, and solenoids.... pioneer and clarion's a bit out of my leauge haha... but your right, iv only heard of the alarms thet a common stock in car audio stores... car audio is what i do for a living, car audio is what i spend my time learning about and researching... not alarms, as part of my job i have to install them, but they bore me and i have better things to read up on than the latest and greatest car alarm, but hey, what would i know...

ps- by your last post's reasoning, if i put some sony xplod 4" in a bently gt, that would mean they're good would it??? oh and have you ever seen directed's "Xtreme" stuff? its shit... the subs literally fall apart, dust caps come off, the cap over the magnet is glued on and falls off 4-5 times, you'v just cut and pasted that from a website you douche, your the one who came on here asking about that alarm so quite clearly you know f%&k all about it aswell, you clearly dont know much else about car audio either... jl audios sold all over australia by jb hifi, its one of the most common brands around haha!! what a clown!

lol..... what a small industry you must be working in...

LOL, no kidding man. I've always had DEI systems installed in my cars and have a story about it too. Here are the cars I have had with Viper, Python, Clifford systems:

1994 Toyota Previa LE (Python system
- works well but never had any incidents)
1987 B16a swapped CRX (Viper system
- no incidents...the car looked like a POS so no one suspected it had anything worth going after)
1994 Honda Accord EX (Clifford Matrix 3.5)
- Worked great, but unfortunately it doesn't protect against shop owners who you leave your car with and trust they will not deactivate it and leave it open for people to break into the shop and strip everything off of it. (I had a custom system in it - Alpine/JL Audio) also had a built up h22a and turbo kit for it, sparco this, momo that...it was going to be my magazine car).
2003 Acura RSX-Type-S (Clifford RSX3.5)
- Paid for itself twice over. I was conducting product training at a CompUSA as a Belkin Dealer and my keychain buzzed and cried out....I ran out into the car lot which was like 300-500meters away and some @$$hole was trying to cover up the dent/scrapes he made into my Arctic Blue Pearl RSX. After some strong conversations...he ended up paying over $800 in damages to get my door and side panels repainted. The alarm cost me around $350 installed at Audio Excellence.
2007 Subaru Forester XT (Clifford RSX3.5)
-Only problem with this system is battery life, but they fixed this with the 50.7x by making the remote able to be charged using USB. What a great idea!

Anyway.....go to your local shop and find something made by Viper or Python and I'll bet you it's the most expensive system in the shop. CHECK OUT YOUR "JB HIFI" as you are SO AWARE OF JL AUDIO Products....and see if they sell anything that is made by DEI.

i admit i hav'nt heard of clifford alarms alot of pepole havent, dont cry, im sorry if i said something you hadnt even really heard about was shit, just out of interest, you ever heard of morel, butler, milbert, brax, us amps, zuki audio??? or maybe you could let us know what system you have in your car? you seem to know quite alot form tyour cut and pasting skills as shown from before

Well, since I just purchased my VTI-S, and haven't had a chance to install my 50.7x I haven't installed my sound system. But even then, I am a little bit older now and don't have the desire for high end sound. With that said here is what I have to be installed:

Alpine XDA-100
JL Audio 4500 Amp
JL Audio C5 splits (front and rear 6.5")

That's it. My wife can't stand bass the way I can. I had a nice setup in my Accord before that included XR650Csi's, Alpine navi, Alpine dvd changer, and a Alpine Widescreen display at the front along with a JL 300/4 and JL 1000/1 to power a 12w7 in a custom fab box along with your reg yellow top optimas etc. It did 143db at Audio Excellence. That was more than loud and clean enough for me. My Forester had the setup above (but I also had a JL 12W3V3 in a JL Wedge box) but even this was too hard for my wife to handle...thank god I didn't buy a W6 or W7 or I would have lost even more money when I sold it.

For now though, the above setup is more than enough for me. But I won't install it until I get my security setup as I believe in getting the security installed before you put anything in the car so NO ONE knows what you got under the hood/trunk/etc. I learned that lesson the hard way. I also do all of my own installs (minus security as this effects warranty).

And although I have not heard of all of those brands (some) I will not jump to conclusions and call it a piece of shit as this is very ignorant to say.

Also:

admit i hav'nt heard of clifford alarms alot of pepole havent, dont cry

Alot of people, like who? It appears that most of this forum that are replying to this thread have heard of it and they are not in the industry.

chill it guys.... no one gains by fightin

I have a Tru and RF amp in the storeroom... nothing in the car.

Friends of mine have milbert, Brax Graphic Edition, Tru, buttler, US Amps, old school PG, etc... I know some distributer and dealers of some of those products as well, but they are not local OZ ones.

For alarm, I have a very disliking for Mongoose and Rihno or something, which I see is everywhere. I havent use them before, yet somehow I dont like them. Clifford is good, I wanted to use them, but its not OZ standard for some reason, and no one sells them here, so no aftermarket alarms in my car as well.

I have Avital Tornado2 alarm in my other car overseas, which I think is under DEI as well.

Any good alarms to recomend since clifford is a no go....

I'm in the market for one myself.

I suppose one would need to list the primary and secondary criteria they seek in the alarm and compare it against the budget.

Primary:
Keyless Entry
2 or 3 Point Immobiliser
Standard Siren
Shock Sensor
Black Wiring

Secondary:
Back-up Siren
Microwave Sensor
Tilt Sensor
Remote Start
Pager System
Remote Immobiliser

I have a budget of +/- $400 including installation so the mainstream Mongoose M60s can't go wrong but I would like to open up on suggestions too.

The other issue is that there aren't exactly many alarm dealers/installers around (at least in Canberra FFS!) and the usual Strathfield and JB HiFis are hopeless from experience and reviews.

I talked to the Directed Electronics Australia the other day about the above. They recommended to me that I get my 50.7x installed at Gold Coast Car Audio in Slacks Creek. I'm still a bit nervous about installing the 50.7x as it is IS NOT canbus. I'm thinking about selling it for around $450 or so and getting the Clifford Upgrade alarm which allows me to use the other components I bought (proximity sensor, voice module, and xpress kit for remote start, etc).

I recommend buying the alarm system in the USA and then bringing it down to a good installer as they try to charge WAY TOO MUCH MONEY here for Directed equipment.

Maybe that since it isn't OZ standard and not too many people can buy them here...means it will be a little bit more secure than your typical alarms that expert thieves know where the "standard" stuff goes including but not limited to factory overrides, key placement.

I have thought about that too, buying it overseas when I go for holidays since I know some dealers overseas.

Not Aus compliant could also mean voiding of insurance if car gets stolen? If it does not then I would want to get a smart key system with push start button.

On my Subaru I told them I had a RSX3.5 Responder system and they didn't seem to say anything about it. AAMI is my insurer. I'm sure half of what comes into the country isn't Aus Compliant. Otherwise we'd have to employ another million people just to sit in a warehouse permanately attached to PC's adding in sku codes, etc on what is and isn't compliant.

Not so if I just install a add on alarm to the existing stock one that comes with my car.

Only drawback is you dont get extra discount on insurance.
