I was just wondering if LED Underbody & Heads/Tails were either legal or illegal in Australia.
If I hook it up to the dome lights, it would be off while I'm driving so I don't think there would be any issues with disrupting other drivers...
Your thoughts?
Here is a youtube clip of what I'm talking about.

anything that can distract other drivers that isnt a standard form of lighting (headlights, amber indicators, red brake lights, etc) is deemed illegal
depends alot on the cop, but if your out driving down the block with strobing green/blue/red leds shining under your car, most cops will pull ya over for a $75 fine/1point (prob has gone up in $)

And if the light only come on when you open doors and goes off when they close?
I saw on a BMW 320i that there are lights near the door handles when you beep the doors unlocked so just wondering if it is still illegal if the underbody comes on when i beep the doors unlock and turn off when i start the engine.

Ok just so you all know, while driving there is not allowed to be and neons or anything like that above the window line for interior lights, as for underbody neons/led's they are legal to have and use ONLY IF THE LIGHT SOURCE CAN NOT BE SEEN. So you can see the glow as much as you like and its fine but if the globe itself is visible in any way what so ever they are illegal.

Neons, strobes, LEDs are all not allowed in the car fullstop.
If the coppa sees them and hes feeling like an aHole he can fine you.
Now Im not sure about the taillights ect because they are now coming stock on some newer cars.
Maybe give your local Transport department a call or even pop into your local station?
If I was you Id call TD.

B18cEG is right though, underbody neons are completely legal EXCEPT for BLUE + RED.
BLUE and RED neons + any blue and red lights facing forward or towards the rear (obv. except taillights) is completely illegal as that is what emergency vehicles use, GREEN + other colours seem to be completely legal.

I was under the same impression that you can have neon lights or whatever, just not allowed to have them on whilst driving.

Well at work i install alot of them so we have to know what is legal and what is illegal since we are responsible if the customer has issues with them, thats why in alot of cases we only install the front and side neons or rear and sides or even just front and rear depending on what will be legal, so you are allowed any colour you like, as for head lights and rear lights you can only have what came standard.

you're allowed to have them pro installed in QLD, but you as the customer have to sign a waver saying the store (you as an installer) are not at fault, lol
same with headunits with displays that are fitted with handbrake switches, many dont have them fitted, and such you have to fill out a waver
